Out of risk of being ostracized and banned I must admit how I feel.
I absolutely hate red $5 chips.
Maybe hate is too strong of a word. But almost every time I see red chip I feel like I'm looking at a missed opportunity. Please accept me for who I am.
I just don't think slightly dark red chips take narrow edge spots (my favorite) well. I know a little about the history of the availability of red dye so I [maybe] get the tradition behind it. But I think the red clay mutes both dark edge spots like purple and blue and also tames bright spots like yellow pink and white. Also I feel red chips antagonize the color of almost all table felts save for black.
I look for cohesion in a set and always see the red chip as the sore thumb, and in most sets it's the workhorse chip! Thats why in compiling my cash set I used tournament values just to avoid putting reds in my set.
Maybe I'm a maverick but I think someone must agree with me. Whose with me? The reign of red 5's must end!
