I had this discussion offline with @Boother36, who is a pretty good woodworker. I was basically asking the best way to join corners for a box, but some other design issues came up, like setting the trays at and angle so gravity hold the chips and what to do with the blank space.

I have five 3x100 wooden chips racks. I think I got these from someone on the blue wall and I've never found a good use for them.

Two empty racks:

I was thinking of making a 900 and a 600 chip box using some scrap 1x3 that I found. The 600-chip box would be the same size, and then extra space would be filled with a bill collector or a flat surface for counting chips (or both). The two boxes would have grooves so they could stack on top of one another.

These are meant to be functional and utilitarian, rather than a beautiful piece of furniture (but I still want them to look decent). I realize weight will be an issue for 1500 chips. I'm really only looking for to use one box at a time, with the main use being for storage, not transport.

I am not a woodworker. I have a table saw, a jigsaw, and a basic router.

Anyone have any ideas?

@Boother36 was having trouble visualizing what I was thinking as a basic design.

Basically a box to hold three chip racks at an angle. Probably tack some wood cut at an angle so the rack can sit on them within the box. Then route a channel (inside edge on the bottom, outside edge on the top) so boxes can stack. Attach handles and a cutout for a lid. Bob's your uncle.

Here's some pics.

The basic layout, using 1x3's to build the box:

The problem is, I don't think the 1x3s are tall enough when the racks are set at an angle.

Might need to use the 1x3s as inner support for the angle and use beefier/taller lumber for the box.
