Cash Game In .25/.25 game which chip is workhorse? (1 Viewer)

For 100bb starting buy in stack game= Your workhorse will generally be $1 until way way late into the game and 25c $1 $5 will likely be the only 3 denominations in play unless your chip set is small like 300-400 chips

For 300-400bb starting buy in and match the stack game = Your workhorse will generally be $5 after the first street and 25c $1 $5 $25 will likely be the 4 denominations in play (occasionally even the $100)

Hosted a handful of .25/.25 and .25/.50 games in the last couple of months, mostly 8 handed and sometimes 9

$50 max buy-in to start and players can match the stack after an hour or so. My workhorse chips are $1 preflop and flop, then $5 in the later streets. The big chips are for re-buys usually. Below is my breakdown and my players like having a black chip or two instead of 4 greens sometimes. Because why not?

x200 quarters
x200 $1
x200 $5
x80 $25
x20 $100

I host .25/.25 and my breakdown is:

100x $.25
200x $1
200x $5

100x fracs is plenty! That’s around a dozen per person average in play.

I’ve never had all the chips on the table but it gets close, so I added a rack of $25s just in case. Bets are almost always heavily $1s, and the $5s ends up stockpiled in the deeper stacks. But as the night goes on it shifts towards the $5s getting bet more. There ends up being almost as many $5s as $1s in play by the end of the night. We play match up to half the stack so rebuys are usually never more than $50 or $60. Emphasis is on casual drinking and fun.

Also agree with everyone who says the same blind size is ideal. Everything is simpler and no one notices after an orbit or two.

For reference I use Ellis Island $1s as my frac and Caesars $1s and $5s as is. So use what you have/like! No one’s ever cared about the Ellis $1s pretending to be quarters and no one’s ever cared about mixing a house mold with RHCs. I think I’m the only one who cares at all that these aren’t dice chips. I live in a chipper desert I guess ‍:(

Gratuitous pron (these are before they got cleaned):

I’m interested in playing some cash games, you running any games this weekend?

I also do $0.25/$0.25 with a $25 buy in, 8 player table. The workhorse chip is the $1.
Going against he grain, I have 10 - $0.25, 11 - $0.50, 12 - $1 and 1 - 5 for the starting stack.
The re-buys and top ups are $1 and $5 chips

We do$0.25-$0.50 blinds $50 max buy in at the start then people who buy in can match the highest tables stack

My $50 stacks to people are the following

$0.25 - 12 chips
$1 - 12 chips
$5 - 7 chips

I try to keep it to where there is less chips on the table more chips plus drunk people cause for pause lol

The workhorse in out game is prob the $1s

I just do 120 $0.25 , 120-170 $1, 100 $5, 20 $25, 10-20 $100s even though hundreds never see the table

Also some people keep some cash on the table as well

I just saw this... Where in NC are you at? And what kinds of games are you looking for? If you can DM me that will be best, but looks like you're new and it won't let me DM you.

I been playing around with the 12/12/7 and the following

More splashy game 16/16/6
$.25 - 16 chips
$1 - 16 chips
$5 - 6

More 3 betting game 12/17/6
$.25 - 12 chips
$1 - 17 chips
$5 - 6

First 3 rebuys with $5 then bring $25s into play.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Last night I built the chip stacks and put them in the case so that they are ready to go Friday night. I have a ton more white chips so I made that the $1. I’m confirmed 8 handed + 2 more might show up so there will be lots of chips in play.

My breakdown:
Twelve, .25 (blue) chips, $3.00
Twelve, $1 (white) chips, $12.00
Two, $5 (red) chips, $10.00

I’m thinking I’ll leave Black & Green chips off the table (I have a ton of $5 red chips and I hear that the fewer denominations, the easier cashing players out will be). But if I do decide to play them, I was thinking Black $10 and Green $25. I know black is traditionally a $100 chip but I don’t see a need for such a large denomination chip in this .25/.25 game. Or maybe just introduce the Green $25 and leave Black in the case.

I’ve come here for your thoughts and ideas. Thanks!
just a thought here. I have a $25 buy in at my house weekly and we do $50 in chips for $25 cash. We play $.25/$50 on the table, but the actual cash value is $.125/$/.25
It has worked out well for us. You just need to remember to dive the actual chips by 2 when cashing out.

also, here is my usual breakdown:
$.25 qty 20
$1 qty 20
$5 qty 5

for rebuys we use $5 or $25 chips

Jeezus. Y? We're so hammered by the end of the night, I don't want to have to do division on top of a normal cash out.

I hear ya. The reason why is I originally wanted a $50 buy in for 100 BB, but one of my regs was dead set against and only wanted a $20 buy in so we compromised and made it $25. It has worked out fine. I have a good group and everyone helps out with cleanup and cash out.

Just play $.25/$.25 for $25 buy-in. We sometimes do that for a $50 buy-in. The preflop raises don't seem to differ from the $.25/.$50 blinds.

sure, I guess we could. I will ask my players what they want to do. We usually go around the table and get consensus to keep everyone happy.

also, my game often gets out of hand quickly. Last week the first hand I had pocket Aces and ended up going all in only to lose to 2 pairs Kings and Queens. lots of rebuys at my game which is why I like the $25 buy in.

What I suggested is still a $25 buy-in. If I had to remember a bet is only 50% of the value, I'd go crazy.

Yeah, you'd never want to consider actual pot odds in a hand.

Technically you are correct, but I'd be calculating a $20 bet is really only a $10 bet. I know you shouldn't care about the money, just the odds, but it would drive me crazy when you could adjust to make a bet full value.

i totally get what you are saying, but we have been playing this way for the last couple of months and it really is not an issue for any of us. I will bring up your suggestion and see what the table wants to do though. Personally I don't care, I just want to play.

I run host a .25/.25 game and the $1 is for sure the work horse. If the game is super loose or goes until 3am then the $5s also become a workhorse, but primarily the $1.
