Lightning Strikes (7 Viewers)

The game wasn't decided by poor officiating - those players were involved in a line change and were well behind the play. They had no influence on the goal.
I have no horse in the race, but that is not at all how the rule works unless I don't understand it. Here is what Wikipedia says about the rule:

Too many men on the ice is a bench penalty in ice hockey called when a team has more than the legal number of players (six, including the goalie, if not already short handed) on the ice at one time. ... In the NHL, substitution is allowed when the outgoing player is within 5 feet (1.5 m) of their bench.

Based solely on the still shot in this thread and based on what Wikipedia says (not me) the rule seems clear to me. They had 5 men on the ice, but should have only had 4 = easy penalty or no penalty = poor officiating.

Maybe TB wins anyway, maybe not. Just my 2c that it is too bad games get decided like that and especially in a game 7 to go to the Stanley Cup.

Poor officiating allowed that goal. It sucks, but I'm not saying Tampa didn't deserve the win. They were the better team last night and for the series overall.

But that's not how on-the-fly changes work in hockey.

Okay, so I looked at it again... 5 men on the ice when Gourde touched the puck. *But* not a penalty because Gourde changed for Killorn and Killorn was off the ice well before Gourde touched the puck.

Looks like a good goal to me. Well, still a bad goal with three mite players following the puck into the corner... But not a penalty.

Just a really nice, complete game by Tampa. Never hurts to start a series like that.

(I was thinking Tampa in 5 once we knew who the final two teams were, and still think that'll be the case.)

Just want to add that Montreal's goal was one of the biggest flukes in the entire playoffs.

Is it possible Lightning take it in 3 and the Canadiens take a mercy rule to prevent the humiliation of Game 4 at home?

It was a good first game, but I expect some pushback from Montreal in game 2. I still think the Lightning will win, but it will be a tighter checking lower scoring game, let's say 2-1.

Amazing goal by Blake Coleman with 1 second left in the 2nd period - Bolts lead 2-1 :D

The chip past the defenseman at the blue line made that play. As far as the diving finish, they could run that 100 times and not make it again. Leading 2-1 in a game where they are getting outshot 2-1 aint a bad spot to be in.
