Hi guys! Can anyone give me some advice. This is a new live poker format for me and I can't figure out if I need chips of higher value than these? There are 1000-$1 and 200-$25.

Do I need $100 or $500 or are the chips I have enough?
How often do you use them and have the third level denominations been useful at all?

I bought it to offer my family a new format of play. :-)

You're doing great just as that sits. Typical buy-in for a $3/6 limit game would be $60-200, so just the chips in your pic represent 30 $200 buy-ins. I can't imagine needing more than that. And if you're playing $2/4 then you've got even more depth there.

Thanks for the quick reply!
Does it make sense to buy an extra $100?
Or will it be for my ego? :-)

If you play a limit game in a casino there are typically only 1 or 2 small denominations on the table. So, if you were to add you should just get more $1 chips...for fun. Other denom would be a 50c chip if you wanted to just play $1/2 limit and would want the 50c chip for the small blind only...1 rack or less is sufficient if you were to add a frac like that.

Think of the green chips as simply giving you more bank/racks of $1, so you've got 50 racks of $1 chips represented by your greens already...plenty of depth.

And, for the record, I support what you're doing here! I picked up 1600 $1 Majestic Star chips for a limit set myself. (I also have some $5/$25/$100/$500 just because.)

Great analogy, I never thought of it, that the bigger chips can be thought of as smaller denominations. Thanks for writing that! It doesn't make sense to have more than 200-$25 chips that way.
I can get $100, but I hate when chips just sit in a closet.

Yep, so if someone is on a heater and running over the table and your $1s are all in play you can throw that guy 4 $25 chips to reclaim a rack of $1s for someone else to buy back in.

If you are looking for a way to justify a barrel of $100s, you can use it as the buy-in. If you have a socializing period before the game, folks come find you and buy the $100 chip. Then when seated they trade it for racks. But, if you do the buy-in at the table, this is unnecessary. Here is a screenshot from Manzoni's video on limit and you can see he includes a barrel of $100s in his setup:
