List your Keeper sets (3 Viewers)

Casino de Isthmus 98 THC & plaques
Condado Beach CIC
Mardi Gras Queen Chipco
Jessie Beck's TRK
Dragonara LGK & plaques
Sterling Cruise Lines THC

All my display cases of chips, mostly from places I have been to.

T
That is an excellent way to collect.

The only reason I don’t have 27 keeper sets is that I only have 16 sets.
What's stoppin' you?

And I'd have a pretty hard time moving from the Crystal Parks. View attachment 843339

Crystal Parks are very under rated IMO. I thought they were hot trash before I got to see/feel them in person. I'm not an RHC fan or a giant inlay fan, but something about these just works. Plus, who doesn't love Pink Floyd?

Once my relabeling gets done, this set will be complete for me. I will keep this until one day I create my CPC custom set, but I don’t have any immediate plans to do that.

Just had a talk about this today with @natumes .
Literally same thoughts. I didn't realize there were subtle color differences in the spots either. Still wouldn't be keeper status for me, but I learned some things at COTS (unrelated to 1990s wrestling, of which I learned a lot, including how to use it as a random number generator for degenerate gambling)

COTS is a degen wildcard master class.

Keeper sets, hmm, if I had to think about, are:
CDI98 THC tourney and cash
Grouse Mountain Lodge THC cash
Big Easy Bud Jones S2 cash
James Bond Casino Night Custom OWPS ceramic blackjack set
Casino Royale Custom LCrown CPC with MSK plaques tourney set
everything else I have is negotiable

Relatively new to the hobby, I'm very happy with my few sets which are obviously keepers:

Cercle Concorde B&G cash - The one that got me into the hobby. A closed card room where I experienced my first emotions playing live NLHE back in 2007.
Concorde 4.jpg

Bourbon Street THC Relabel cash - My first Paulson set, the one that got me into PCF. Hadn't planned to land here at first, but the result is quite satisfying.
splash`.jpg

Mixed Paulson THC cash - When I finally found Bourbons OG's (initially planned above), I decided to keep the relabel set as it and to build a 3rd (and last) cash set.

Came here for the chips, stayed for the friends. Nothing would have been possible without you.

Cheers!

Monday Morning Ben book time! Yes Be Warned!! Hahaha

I really don't see the issue with 27 either honestly... we have 39 (I think) and sure we could easily cut a few of the lower end stuff (maybe get down to 34 ish) but 27 would be a monster cut. For @ovo Getting down to 27 would definitely hurt. Have to do some reserch but sounds like someone with 2 playable sets making a statement like "27 is after narrowing it down" lol

This addiction is real! For some it is just liquid funds, buy a full set, never clean your chips... just play them a couple times. Do you really have a connection to them at all or are they just another form of currency to you like monopoly money?

To those people that never fully understand, I hope someday you decide to take on a project that is nearly impossible, that seems absolutely insane at the start. One of those "man... this might take me 10 years, but I don't care! I absolutely love these chips!" Once you get there and you realize one day that your forever build is playable for 4 people then 5... watching it grow. Hand cleaning each and every chip as you pay ridiculous amounts for shipping of single chips. Yes this is in reference to ONE set. But do that a couple times, or build a set of customs from absolutely nothing, just a concept in your head, watch it grow into something amazing as you get feedback from fellow chippers and work with a designer.

What's the point? Make the chips yours, make a personal connection to them before thinking that someone else having 27 sets after cutting the collection down is insane. The time an effort to get to that point is well beyond many members understanding.

Not sure why but this comment made me think about the Jonny Depp movie "The 9th gate" these older people that have absolutely insane library's of books. There is absolutely no way they could have ever read all of them. Some of the anquie books in those collections were worth tens of thousands of dollars each. How about a Gutenburg Bible at an estimated $35 million dollars? Is anyone that owns that ever going to actually read it?

At least in our hobby we can play and actually enjoy our collection, share it with others. "Art is in the eye of the beholder" right, they have book shelves and beautiful walls filled with paintings! We have chip trays, bird cages, barrister cabinets. Ours is meant to be mobile and enjoyed, while also observed and cherished!

I hope all here find that type of connection/passion for something in their lives.

3 completed sets in and working on this now as my final. Absolutely sucks at the moment but I can't imagine how it will be if I ever finish them. This part of your post was like a motivational speech to me to keep it going.

@Ben8257 I like that comment, .... playable for 4, then 5, watching it grow.... That's a real thing, completely satisfying .
While just another Ben book, I put a lot of heart into that one brother! I hear from people all the time that it is obvious how passionate I am about the hobby. There's a ton of people that love nice chips, only a select few that reach that next level of compassion (obsession unfortunately). I have been a collector on many things in my life (take a peak at the old posts in the Lego thread! Haha), but nothing has ever brought as much joy as the chipping hobby. Pretty damn honored that others enjoyed that Monday Morning read! Haha

Many of us feel your pain brother. At this point we have a few projects that we check all over online daily, maybe one chip comes up on eBay every 3 months... what we used to pay $12 for now we have to stomach a bid of $30 just to get outbid and watch that chip we wanted and needed slip through our fingers. It sucks and not much we can do when someone else needs it more than we do! It can leave you sick for days, weeks even thinking about the one that got away!"

I'm sitting at 172 of these, would love to finish the second rack but

Someone definitely needed that chip more than I did! Matter of fact it seems like two or more needed it more than I did. But I don't think anyone else owns a playable quantity of those, hopefully the singles guys get their samples and move on. Nothing we can do but keep up the good fight at reuniting our babies that have been split up and spread across the earth. They want to be reunited and back on the felt together, enjoyed as they were originally intended.

I say thank you all that contribute in your own efforts for bringing them back together!

Assuming our mail lady (she's a damn Queen! btw) has what my tracking info says she has on her truck today, then the final piece of my holiest of holy grails should arrive today. I haven't been this excited for clay circles to arrive in the mail for a very long time.

I'm at 4 sets and stopping here. This hobby obsession is taking too much time and money LOL

Tourney Set Jack white Label to eventually be a custom label
Tourney Set AST
Cash CDI 98 THC Set (what I came here for LOL) I'm over 2,000 chips
Custom Cali Solid THC Set (work in progress, should keep me on this site for another 3 months LOL)

Totally agree! I avoided them for years but after I bought that starter set off Travis a year ago, I have been slowly adding to the set to now have around 1400 chips. Here’s my travel set for home games

Love the Floyd reference just never can get over how the inlays are giant and part of the spots. I know I’m in the minority here but just never cared for that on the Crystal Parks.

I have a card mold Aria tournament set just in case.

Sometimes I think that's too many sets but I'm glad I have you guys here to make me realize it might not be enough haha. Maybe if I really love my CPC set I'll make a standard color set later on in a diff mold and theme. Went with DSQ for my first order.

I’m defining “keeper” in this case as complete sets that have enough for a variety of game stakes, and are sets I would never sell in part or whole. If I even have the slightest inkling that I might sell or trade them even in the distant future, they’re not listed below.

*Some of the sets below, I do have some extra racks of some denoms (either worse condition than the others, or from a different purchase, that might come available for trade or sale.)

They are listed in no particular order, just as I remember them, not in order of importance.

West World cash

The one I don't think I'd sell but might if the price was ever right - Paulson Le Noir multi-table tourney set

The others, they're just long term rentals.
