Well... I was going to add some photos for @John Conor but instead I think I will retract post #319 and head back to the drawing board!! Lol absolutely amazing Mr. @ovo a true life long chipper! I hope to someday see part of the collection in person! Keep up the good fight buddy!! I'm truly not very sure that our collection will be growing in any large chunks in the foreseeable future... time to start paying them off and finishing up the gaps to make them complete for us. I have shared this pic before and no not in a spread sheet... old fashioned pencil.
20210316_105901.jpg

My reason for sharing again is that darn right column there, the question mark means "not finished" and there are entirely too many question Mark's rather than check mark's. Now some of those are just custom pieces and not actually hunting but many are sets that could still use some work!

I am cusrious though Frank, of that monster collection what percentage you would consider your sets at 100% and not needing anything else. Also how many times along the way did you say "that's enough, no more!" And then get back into the game!

Either way truly fascinating and awesome update!!

Fellow Chipper Ben
The real problem Ben, is that the sets are never finished. I am always adding. I might have a problem, but it's not buying chips

Fairly new around here, but In terms of full playable sets, I’m up to:
  • 1000 chip majestic cash set (micro stakes up to a light 1/2)
  • 800 chip T25-T10k Monte Carlo tournament set
  • 800 chip T25-T25k CC Dunes tournament set (thanks @Frogzilla !)
  • 1200 chip used HSI cash set (low stakes up to a light 2/5; hoping to add a rack or two of nickel relabels to play some micro stakes with it)
  • 600 chip claysmith custom label tournament set (gift for the dad, so not technically mine)
  • 1000 chip HSI BJ roulette set that I’m planning to relabel into a .10/.1/10 cash set
  • 2000 chip cash + tournament dice set that I loan out all the time and just can’t bring myself to sell.

Probably sounds like a ton of fun... but really we just wash, oil and flatten chips every evening while watching a movie. Literally every single evening except Sprint Car dirt track racing again on the weekends, occasional poker nights but still not much going on until everyone is vaccinated.

Even though its was a joke, Still a compliment coming from one of the gents at the big kid poker table!! Brie and I are looking forward to meeting you MJ and of course @Mrs Poker Zombie some day soon!

Anything I've posted earlier in this thread can be ignored, since every was sold in the past two years.
Presently I have:
Foxwoods 1st gen THC cash set - 500ish chips (600 with starburst fracs) all THC leaded wonderfulness. This really could be the only set I'd ever use. I'll keep building it, because you can always use more $5s. But its perfect for my .25/.50 cash game, and I thought I knew love before I met this set.
Mixed casino THC set - 500 chips, near mint leaded THCs for .25/.50 cash game - I thought this would be my keeper set, but I bet I end up breaking it up / selling it off within the next year or two.
Dios De Los Mortes - 320 chip STT set. I rarely host tournaments. If I ever end up doing a bunch of them, I'd probably go for something better. But these are pretty cool ceramics, and I needed something to fill the carousel.
Horseshoe cincinnati WSOP 36mm Heads-up - Nothing against these chips, but I really only own them because they came in one of the coolest chip cases I've ever seen, and it won't fit 39mm chips https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/hu-36mm-wsop-fournier-setup-case.58897/
Mixed casino THC heads-up cash - This set probably gets used the most, because I bring it to my buddy's and we play OFC or heads up cash. All leaded. Goodish (not bike tires) casino used chips.
Limit set undenominated L-mold - 1000ish cool old clays I got so cheap, I'll probably never get rid of them, just because they're more useful for the twice a decade limit game I might host, than the short cash they'd bring.

That's my list. It's bigger than I thought and it won't get any bigger (though one or two of the sets may.) I'm at the point where I have what I need, I love what I have, AND I'M FEELING COMPLETELY PRICED OUT OF THE HOBBY. Disillusioned? Probably. Bitter? Maybe a bit. It's not about what I can or can't afford, I'm just not interested in overpaying any more. I'm not done with the hobby. I like the community. I love poker. I just already have more than I need, so I'm done buying sets. I think.

My updated set list : I've got a whopping ..... three sets. Other than some odds and ends, they are complete and I am happy with how the sets came out.

CASH: Vegas house mold (2000 chips) with a $14000 bank ..... I'll never see even close to that much on the table but you can't have a set without a bunch of $100s, $500s, and $1000s for fun. There are over 900 $1 chips for any limit game I may have as well.

TOURNEY: no surprise, Matsui WPS (1550 chips) for 30 players. Lightly sanded to remove the slickness and allow better stacking. Some label replacements using Emerald Bay for high roller denominations. Chips range from T25 up to T1Million for all ranges from a T5000 starting stack to a T2million starting stack. All the extra chips are there including All-In, Bounty, Rebuy, and table/seat# chips

SMALL SET: El Casino Club Bahia (102 chips) for a 3 player tourney (need a few $25s for a 4th player). I picked these up from a Jim sale back on the blue board days. Should have grabbed a few more at the time but I'm happy with what I got. $1 and $5 chips are for T1k and T5k

Gone and forgotten: Casino Aztar (Indiana) cash and tourney set for 50 players (4000 chips total) and BTP Tourney set (1000 chips)

What're the chips in both of the mixed THC sets? I don't know where it's currently at, but I remember really liking one of the iterations (maybe current?) I saw.

Ben
You’re a lucky man, sir! My wife looks at me like I’m a complete idiot whenever I tend to my babies (the chips that is).

Wow, there are some impressive collections out there, amazing:

I've only been chipping since 2018, but even in that short time, I've bought and re-sold my fair share of sets.

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN:
- JACK Detroit cash set - Paulson RHC mold (approx 1200 chips)
- Horseshoe Cincinnati cash set - Paulson RHC mold (approx 800 chips)
- National Poker Series cash set - Paulson Paulson mold (approx 800 chips)
- National Poker Series tournament set - Paulson Paulson mold (approx 600 chips + plaques)

Current collection after some recent additions will look like this:

CASH:
- Aurora Star - Paulson THC mold (approx 1100 chips)
- Big Top Poker - Paulson THC mold (820 chips)
- Hoser Hut Poker - CPC MD-50 mold (approx 1000 chips)
- Fabulous Las Vegas - Paulson leaded THC mold (approx 1000 chips)

TOURNAMENT:
- Big Top Poker - Paulson IHC mold (680 chips)

This will certainly change again. I could see the tournament set being swapped out for something cheaper, given that we almost never play tournaments. I could also foresee adding another CPC set to the mix at some point (scrown or jockey mold) - the process of creating a custom set was tremendously rewarding the first time around and I already have the itch to do another one at some point.

Gone :
ASM Monsoon Palace cash set
Sunfly "ACF tribute" 43mm tourney set

Current :
Cercle Concorde B&G cash set
Bourbon Street THC relabel cash set

That's all folks !

What're the chips in both of the mixed THC sets? I don't know where it's currently at, but I remember really liking one of the iterations (maybe current?) I saw.
Thanks. I think Maybe the most impressive chips I’ve ever owned were the 20-25 Burro Inn fivers in the heads-up mixed set. I sold them off, just because I decided my money was better allocated elsewhere.

Haven't been at this too long but have picked up enough sets that I can hear my wife's eyes rolling when she sees me browsing the classifieds...lol

720 Bud Jones Big Easy, cash
1400 RHC Isle Girardeau hot stamps, cash+tourney
~1450 BCC CDI, cash+tourney
720 RHC HSI, cash (down from 1700)
500 Sunfly ACF, tourney

Hoping to get 3 more sets. One each of THC, CPC customs, and Matsui decal.

Thanks @Ben8257 for the annual bump on this thread. :) It's been great seeing the diversity of collections the membership has. It also felt kinda weird seeing what people had five years ago compared to what's being traded today. Lots of owned sets back then that you just don't see pictured, traded, or talked about these days, at least not very often.

I'm eight months into this hobby and so I guess I can list my sets too. I started with one and now I have [counts] omg fourteen? How did that happen?

Primary Sets
Spirit Mold - 900 chips (split into sub-sets of 300 and 600)
Sixteen Stripe - 2000 chips

Both of these are destined to get custom labels but I haven't gotten to that yet. These are my "primary" sets because even though they're China Clays and plastics respectively, they look great and feel great, much better than most cheap chips, making them a huge value for the price... especially since I bought them when they were on clearance for pennies per chip. These are my large sets in case I host a large game.

The rest of my sets are small, 300-500 chips each, which is fine because most of my games are small. They don't have great breakdowns because for what I'm collecting I have to take them as they come, but that's also fine because I can be flexible.

Antique Sets
Engraved Paranoids - the ones in my avatar
Catalin - marble-swirled translucent Bakelite
Bone - a beautiful and unique set from the Eisenstadt estate, circa 1910

Clay
Paulson Web Mold Scandias - love love love these, please sell me your hundos
ASM Web Mold solid hotstamps - love these too, pure simple elegance

Ceramics
SBM Monte Carlo ceramics - Chipcos made for the legendary Monte Carlo casino in Monaco, featuring designs based on their pin-up-art publicity posters

Plastics
Langworthy 338-spotted - probably the nicest of the ultra-cheap plastics ever used in casinos
Lucky Birch - mass-market heavy slugged plastic, but with a graphic design that I really like
Bicycle Clays ["clays"] - the nicer of the Bicycle chips, not the interlocking lightweight ones; moderately heavy but unslugged. I bought these for board gaming.
Dice Chips - a gift from my wife a very long time ago, will never let these go

Racks-Of-Many-Colors
Starbursts - A rack or two each of seven different colors, please sell me your blacks
SBM Monte Carlo ceramics - A rack (more or less) each of nine different colors (separate from the dedicated set above)

I'm also collecting samples and stacks of nearly every type of chip I come across, and I have a lot of them so far. Technically that's not a playable set, but any and all of them could see play on every-chip's-a-dollar night.

I think I'm starting to slow down. I have a small wishlist / dreamlist of sets I'd like to own, but they're all outside my budget for now (for now). Gotta save something for the years to come, I suppose. In the meantime I'm content to collect a wide variety of small and cheap sets rather than spending all my money on just a handful of large and expensive sets. I'm fascinated by these odd round bits of plastic, and I've loved seeing and holding and playing with such a diverse assortment. Every chip feels different, and every chip feels great.

I keep things simple for my games. A less is more type thing. I keep things interchangeable since relabels aren’t allowed in my mind.

relabels aren’t allowed in my mind.
Philosophically, I get that stance but I don’t get how you can then use a different value than is on the label. $100 label = $1 in play. To me, that’s the same thing of using the chip for a different intended purpose.

FTR - I don’t have a problem with 10x/100x values or with relabels though.

Good selection of chips, I hope your players appreciate them!
