OK, we have a thread for what PCF is listening to. It's been fun, and there's some pretty good stuff mentioned in there -- mostly newer music.

So I'm going to hold a little contest tonight to see who really knows their traditional musicians.

We have a local blues restaurant/bar/nightly live music venue, our favorite music hangout. On their walls, they have stylized portraits of some very well known singer/songwriter/musicians, mostly (arguably) of the blues genre. At 10pm tonight, EDT, I'll put up a picture here of two rows of seven singers each. The challenge is to name all 14, or, failing anyone doing that, see who can name the most.

The winner will receive the rack of blue ceramic Mardi Gras Casino fifty-cent chips pictured below. (They're blue, see?)

Rules:

1. DO NOT POST ANY ANSWERS IN THIS THREAD! Send your answers to me on PCF by PM.

2. Submit your entry as names, one to a line, numbered from 1 to 14. Lines 1 to 7 correspond to the pictures in the top row, from left to right; lines 8 to 14 are the bottom row, from left to right.

3. All entries must be sent by 10:15 pm tonight EDT. Yes, it's a short window, but I want to minimize the chances of someone using image searches, etc. to come up with the answers.

4. PCF members only; must have a minimum of 100 PCF posts to be eligible.

5. One PM only, thus one entry per PCF member. If I receive more than one PM from you after 10 pm, you are disqualified. Tough noogies.

6. In the event of a tie in the number of correct answers, I will post one more portrait as soon as possible after 10:30. The winner will be the first entrant to send me a PM correctly naming that musician.

7. Anyone living within 25 miles of Sarasota is ineligible (I'm afraid this means you, @k9dr, because you've probably been there).

Sample entry:
---------------------------
1. John Lennon
2. Paul McCartney
....
13. George Harrison
14. Ringo Starr
---------------------------

Good luck all!

Only three entries -- thanks for playing!

@jbutler was first, at the ten minute mark, and he got all 14 (if you don't count spelling ;).

@lnlver was next, in the final minute, with 10 right.

@AK Chip made it at the wire, with 11 right.

They were:

1. Jimi Hendrix
2. B. B. King
3. Bonnie Raitt
4. Bob Dylan
5. Muddy Waters
6. Jerry Garcia
7. Patsy Cline

8. John Lee Hooker
9. Neil Young
10. Woody Guthrie
11. Aretha Franklin
12. Hank Williams
13. Jim Morrison
14. Elvis Presley

Jack, send me your address, please.

(And I still think Hank Williams looks like Bing Crosby in a cowboy hat.)

I thought Woody looked a bit like Bono, but I figured as far afield as these clowns were getting from blues performers they weren't going to get all the way to Bono.

Thanks, Larry!

Also, re: spelling, to be fair I did it without googling and my name spelling skills are...challenged.

And one late entry, from Lil Tuna, with 7 right.

I'm surprised 3 out of 4 knew Patsy Cline.

I was in a rush but I doubt I would have had any more right with more time. Maybe Aretha. It was fun thanks!

Damn, I don't even have a guess, but he's white and he's not Stevie Ray so I'm going to just go with "doesn't belong on the blues wall."

Well, I could have put up a pic of a local white guitarist who toured for a few years with Freddie King.

He's a bit bluesy -- delta blues, being from Tupelo, MS. That's a self-portrait he gave to the club. And he recently went up on the wall, replacing Morrison.

One of our absolute favorite live performers...name tomorrow, in case anyone else has a guess.

Neil Young should ask that photographer for his money back.

Google him, and look at the pictures. The original b&w photo of that one and a lot of others like it are there. He likes that hat and that look, apparently.
