So, I am doing a home renovation for a client. He is wealthy, I'm not.
In his 5 bedroom, 7 bathroom house is also a game room with a cheap poker/bumper pool table.
I would like to give him a set of chips as a house warming present.

Any ideas on what to give him that is classier than the el cheapo dice garbage?

I am thinking about the basic 300 chip set, $1, $5, $25, & $100 denoms for the casual home game.

Budget is under $200 if possible.

Milanos look nice and they also have fractionals. I might have to get some for myself! I'm hoping that someone will want to sell off their starter set after upgrading to customs. ;)

You might be able to get a 300 chip garden city set for about that price, but the client likely will not fully value the very used vintage chips.

New china clay chips seem like a good way to go.

Poker-knights range. They're nice, cheap.

They're a good option. There's a couple downsides to consider. The feel is a little rubbery, they usually have some mold flashing, they're slugged, and the colors aren't as nice as oiled milanos (IMO). More budget friendly for sure though. I think the Monaco's have the classiest inlay of the 3 options.

The breakdown may be tricky since its only 300 chips and you don't know whether he will be using them for cash or tourneys.
Try non-denoms and a breakdown something like 100/80/80/20 or similar.

So last week, the client's wife and 20 year old son were in the game room near the poker table. I asked where the chips were. The son said they had a nice set of chips, nice and heavy. Yep, dice chips! 100 of each, red, white, and blue. I resisted the urge to evacuate the contents of my stomach. I think I will go ahead and get a nice set of Milano's with a good home game mix, quarters, dollars, $5's and some larger ones. I will probably go for a 400 chip set.

Looking at the different options, I am leaning closer to a set of Monacos from Apache Chips.
The Monaco chips are slugged, if you haven't handled them. They have a rubbery feel to them. Nicer than dice chips for sure though.

I'm running Monacos in my micro game, and the players love them. I'm not a fan of the grey quarter, but I'm apparently the only one.

I may or may not get a set of Majestics before I get CPC customs for my cash games, and if I go straight to customs, I may still run the Monacos for micro... may not be baller enough to get custom fracs...

Wait until Friday, and play around with my Milanos for a while... Give them a test run. After reading your OP, my first inclination was to recommend the Milanos.

And steer him towards my 50" round table I have for sale locally :)

Update: I bought the chips about a month ago. The Milanos $5's were backordered so I got a deal on Pharaohs in their place.
Picked out a set of 600 chips.
Good cash game spread with 150 $0.25, 100 $1's, 100 $5's, plus some $25's, $100's, and $500's for fun.
Last week I gave them to the customer. I was waiting for their poker table light to come in so I could have them out on the table when I installed the light fixture.

The customer was very surprised and happy.
