I am thinking of expanding my chip horizons and looking at mixed sets... Any basic guidelines on how to create a small cash set of mixed chips?
The number one rule is to choose different base colors to avoid dirty stacks. The rest are optional.Maybe there are no rules, but most would agree that keeping the same mold will help to keep the continuity of the set. Mixing giant inlays with THC, For instance can look out of place. Otherwise just look for colors and spots and inlay designs that go with each other, and suit your tastes
And I would add use spots and spot colors that compliment the other chips base colors. Just my opinion but have fun.The number one rule is to choose different base colors to avoid dirty stacks. The rest use optional.
I'm curious. With the size of your collection what is your favorite mixed set? I don't think I've seen one from you.#2 rule is have fun building it.
#3 rule is build it fast. Then take your time finding replacements that you like better (in the moment).
My favorite mixed set is continually morphing, and may never be finalized. And that's okay.
Absolutely yes to #3. This is exactly what I'm in the process of doing and couldn't agree more. I initially looked for good quality chips, that I liked, that I knew were in somewhat of demand, and built the set so it was playable even if it wasn't perfect. With this, the pressure is off and I think the hard part is over. I can put this set into play whenever I want and now I can take the time to find better replacements one denomination at a time as they pop up in the classifieds.#2 rule is have fun building it.

or it didn't happenPics?
I didn't have a chance to pull the chips out today so I'll post some pr0n of the actual set tomorrow (1000 chips), but in the meantime, here is what I've assembled in my 4 months at this. There is no coordination of colors (yet), there is no theme (yet), but I have some nice spot progression (I think), and every denomination is near mint to mint (which is the most important to me). I have two options right now for quarters and two options for $25's. Sorry for the really bad cell phone picture. Tomorrow's will be better.Pics?
