I’ve seen a few of these posts before, with much more interesting sets than mine, but I figured it would be fun to document my chipping journey as well.
Although, as I’m typing this and checking through my old photos I realise how insane I am.
So my first “set” was dice chips, which I used for about 8 years until I found out there were better options. Even back in the day I prided myself on having the clay composite version, rather than the really plastic version. Kinda silly looking back, but early on even I guess I liked chips.
I followed that up with the injection mold desert palms, which were quickly replaced with a rack of pharaohs, which were quickly replaced with about 360 bcc Mardi Gras. From memory I only paid $0.60 for these from holdempokerchips. Unfortunately I knew nothing about breakdown and also bought mostly ncvs so they never really got used.
To this day I still love this set and imo bcc are fantastic chips that can be almost on par with Paulson when done correctly. The suits mold on these is awesome.
Shortly after this I bought some used PCAs, which I quickly decided I hated and followed up immediately with 750 mint PCAs. Sorry no pics but you know what they look like.
My next purchase was this set from jj83. I loved this set but had planned to order an add-on but never got around to it. If memory serves these would have cost about $1.68 each at a time when $1 AUD was worth about $1.05 usd. Today it would cost me $2.41usd and $1 aud is only worth about $0.70 usd. Fine times.
Around about the same kind of time I also saw a sales ad on chiptalk for the ASM commemorative set (photo stolen from @Señor Tony) and bought a set of about 500 I think. I believe these were something to do with Jim’s retirement?
As you can see, my sets were tiny and the breakdowns awful and I really didn’t know what I was doing for the most part, plus was at uni for most of this time so didn’t have deep pockets. I ended up meeting my now-wife and sold every single set, except for the Mardi Gras and the nine dragons all in one go, to fund a 6 week overseas trip. I was especially gutted to see the PCAs go. More on that to come.
