Hi everyone,
Just wanted to share my thought process when designing a new set for myself. I do wish I found this place before going thru the process but still, I’m happy with what I’ve done.
I mainly play poker with two groups of friends. With one, it’s tournaments and with the other group it’s $1/$3 cash games. I wanted one design/set that could cover both games. The cash set would consist of $1, $5 and $25 chips. The tourney set would use the same $25 chip as well as $100, $500, $1K and $5K chips.
I wanted to use traditional base colours since the vast majority of the boys play poker down here at Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia and in Vegas. Here’s my thought process for the design;
Each set had to have a different icon\logo in the inlay for each chip. It didn’t matter if the icon\logo appeared in both sets as long as they weren’t on the table at the same time.
Each icon\logo represents an aspect of my poker room and my friends. The pistol and shotgun are for players that steal my blinds, the gangster is a sketch of my brother, the whiskey and cigars are both consumed in large quantities in my games and the money bag is a “congratulations for lasting long enough to receive a $5K chip” when we chip up.
I really like the 3D14 edge so I used it for the $1 & $5 chip in the cash set. I was gonna use the same edge across all chips but decided to "reset" so to speak and make the $25 with one edge, the $100 with 2 and so on, just to make it a little different. This way, I get to see/use the 3D14 spot for most of the cash play and the tourney set starts at 1 edge and increments from there.
Each icon\logo colour matches one of the edge colours.
I chose the A mold cause I’m impatient and wanted this set as soon as possible. David at CPC was awesome to deal with! Can’t wait to get them and put them in play. I’ve calculated I need to win every cash game from now till June next year, to break even.
