Hey guys, I've been on here a couple weeks, and have been greeted with nothing but generosity and knowledge by the members I've dealt with.

As a new guy to the chip scene again I started snagging old Paulson roulettes on feebay at what I thought were good prices of ~ $.40/chip. I've spend the last two weeks cleaning the grime off of these to relabel, so I've learned that's not all it's cracked up to be. Thanks to the beautiful sets of members and resources on here I got bit by the used casino chip bug and have started putting together a mixed cash set, already spending like 2-3x my original "chip budget".

I snagged some of those PCNY $25 chips for cheap last week on feebay along with a few other lucky members, thinking I could use them as quarters at that price, but I've decided to go with shaped inlay THCs instead for my set. I then threw these up on eBay with a BIN price of what I thought they might go for at market value, hoping to help fund the cash set instead. My line of thinking was not to flip chips for a profit or take advantage of the chippers on here by trying to profit from them, but selling to the broader eBay audience, as those chips didn't originate from a pcf member. As a new member on here trying to navigate the waters of this community and the online marketplace, I didn't think I was acting immorally to the members on here, as any money I make is going to end up in the hands of pcf members for chips I acquire for my set.

I don't know if there's a guide for new guys, or just unspoken rules around here. I sure didn't mean to offend @BGinGA or any other members, or to fly in the face of the generosity of @B.C. and others who have been welcoming resources for this crazy addiction. I feel like I may have made a bad first impression and wanted to apologize, if that was the case.

TL: DR - Hi, this place and you guys are great, I made an amateur mistake, sorry

Welcome :) imo brush it off and sell them for what you want. "Chip flipping" seems to only apply to certain members or at certain times. Read the thread on the ASM poker star chips(6x the purchase price), didn't seem to be as much anger in it that thread as there was in the post about your chips.

Ya, opinions tend to vary on this subject. My opinion? I think there's a special place in hell for those who intentionally buy up a huge lot of chips from a Chip Room sale, and then immediately flip them on eBay for 2x what they just paid. The main issue I have with this is that their mass purchase denies many forum/community members the opportunity to get their hands on reasonably priced chips. This is bad for the community in general.

That said, I personally find no problem with someone who purchased a nice set of chips from Jim (Chip Room), and later decides to sell them off, even if they make a profit from it. I think time elapsed has a lot to do with how douchey (or not) it is to resell chips for profit (when purchase originally from a community source).

I think those PCF members that purchase chips from Jim at the time of his sale, then soon thereafter realize they purchased too many or don't like the chips, often make these available to the community at close to their investment costs (obv priced to recoup shipping and account for cleaning/oiling, etc..). IMHO, it's seen as kinda douchey to soak up a bunch of TCR chips, then when they all sell out, try to make a huge profit from the community (if that was your intention from the get-go).

I don't think anyone has an issue with someone who scores a nice set on eBay or craigslist for cheap, then makes them available to the PCF members (even if they make a profit). We don't buy the chips thinking they'll lose value, so it goes to reason that if you buy chips, they're an investment of sorts.

Again, people come to this forum for different reasons. Some to profit, some to learn, some to socialize, etc.. I may not like some forms of chip flipping, but my opinion is just that. It's not up to me to judge people's motivations for participating in this community. I personally have no clue what you did or didn't do with regards to buying and selling chips. Not my business.

Chip on! :)

What you paid for something is no ones concern (it's YOUR money to do with as you please) and what you sell for is YOUR choice. If they don't like the price, they don't have to buy it. Seems pretty simple to me. If your price is too high, it won't sell. If someone buys it at that price, it was worth it to them to acquire the item at that price, regardless of what anyone else who didn't purchase your chips thinks.

Don't sweat it. Chip on.

This. As with everything, do what you honestly think is right and fuck everyone else's opinions. I've argued both sides of the chip flipping debate at different times and honestly it's a bit of a wash ethically imo.

Ya, pretty much sums up my post, lol
