Are musical/band promotional chips common and are they collected specifically by anyone?

I just stumbled on this old gem from my younger days...

It would be cool to have a usable set of different band promo chips but that would be HARD TO ACCUMULATE!

Welcome!

Majority of those older Hard Rock chips are out there, meaning there are a ton of them.

Some of them are worth more than others. The commemoratives in general have a large quantity in existence. Most were made by the thousands, some only a few hundred and lower.

If you're potentially looking to get some band/music themed chips in quantity, let me know and I might be able to help out!

Thank you!!

I remember at the time thinking that I didn’t see very many in circulation which is why it ended up in my pocket.

Do you happen to have a sense of whether the casinos expected people to take these as souvenirs or did they mostly get destroyed?

Casino ultimately made them for people to take home with them. I'm sure there's a small number of them that got destroyed. The higher denominations, yes, but the lower like $5s and $25s should be available.

I would love to see an online compendium of cool commemorative chips from over the years…

Amazing to think you have access to them in volume!

I don’t know if very many of us can define compendium, but if you’re interested in band chips, spend some time on eBay. You could search by band name and chip, or maybe band name and casino chip, and get a good feel for what’s out there.
And of course Spinetti’s - they have the best chip inventory of any retailer.
But this is a hobby where you need to do your own work. In the absence of a compeniwhosis, what you could do is just check eBay every morning for every new $5 chip listed. The vast majority of these chips are made in the $5 denomination. As Oscar points out, they’re also made in the $25 denomination and the $100 denomination, but those will be more expensive and less common.
