Hello All,
As the title says, new to the site. Been hosting poker games once a month for just shy of 2 years. Super low key with dice ships and a plastic table (with an old army blanket) that barely fits 8 people. Want to step up my game to more comfortably support 8 to 10 players. Initially tried tourney style but cash games are what fits our group better. Joined the site to try and scrounge out some trustworthy opinions and there seems to be no other site. So, kudos to PCF for dominating the scene. Currently looking to upgrade chips to a set of 500 to 600-perferrably with micro denominations based off .25/.50 blinds. Still want to remain lowkey and trying to keep that purchase between $150 and $200. Currently have my eye on some Outlaws or Desert Sands but not 100% sold visually on either of them. I am a little concerned with all of you ;) because the "save money, wait, and purchase once" seems to be a PCF motto that no one can live by as you generally all follow up with "... look at my 3(+) sets of chips to include ceramics, customs and/or paulsons ..." But I still find myself coming back as you guys are passionate about the culture of poker. And before you all ask, yes I also plan on upgrading the table. Just haven't decided on a collapsible like a Barrington or DIY a plywood and proper felted table that I can throw on top of the current collapsible plastic table.

Either way, happy to be here.

At that budget, I will bump the budget up a bit and go for Tina Chips instead. (Search Tina Chips for more pic/info)

You can fully custom them and you get a much better deal / return compared to spending $100 on mass=market slugged plastic.

600 chips on No Mold / Card Mold cost about $220-240 while 600 chips in Hybrid cost higher about $270 + label cost.

600-perferrably with micro denominations based off .25/.50 blinds
100/200/200/80/20 is generally the recommended breakdown for 25/50c, extra bonus being able to cover 50/$1 as well.

100 x 25c
200 x $1
200 x $5
80 x $25
20 x $100

This man gets it…

A fine addition to the community !!!

Welcome to PCF!

Welcome!
First, you should get samples, I have a post for new members in my signature (landscape on mobile).

While chips travel, if you are the only one hosting, I would recommend considering up grading the table first.

Agreed. We are chip geeks but players will notice better tables and chairs way before caring about the chips.

Welcome! Had a similar budget, good luck on this slippery slope.

Welcome!

Agreed on the comments above about a table first if you’re hosting somewhat regularly. I got more comments / compliments about having a poker table than I ever did about my chips over the years. I think I’ve seen folk post the Barrington as low as ~$150, really good price for what you get (most were ~$200~250ish).

After that, you can buy a few samples for $10-$20.

Welcome! I agree with the buy once cry once mentality... Mostly because I didn't listen to it and regret my original purchase. Table upgrade is not a bad idea. Just remember if you're hosting you also get to have joy at your table. If that means new chips over a table for you then by all means go that route. But I agree players don't care about chips LMAO. The only thing that impressed them is if they go from dice chips to chips with denominations. That seems to impress them a little.

Welcome, and I will also highly recommend upgrading your table, and possibly chairs, first.

Thank you for the 'welcomes' everyone! I think I will focus on a table first after hearing from so many of you:

It makes sense but was initially leaning to chips first due to instant gratification of buying chips vs a potential DIY table project.

Now it is time to search the forum for pre-made foldable table durability opinions vs DIY route. I will also reluctantly search some Tina examples and price options because I am curious.
