I'm sure there are many different approaches to buying chip sets, and, what works for one may not be right for another. I'm working on coming up with my own custom design for a CPC set, but, I also like different chips. I like rotating chips for games, it's a good conversation piece. Others have the concern of needing the security of unique customs for the games they run.

I like ceramics, sometimes I want to play with the feel and colors of ceramics. Other times not. I have a Tina no mold set for the nickel fracs that are useful for the times nickels are needed. They aren't my favorite, not the highest quality, but, fill a need.

Even though all those purchases can take away from the main goal of a custom set, they aren't the end of that goal. They help in defining what I want in my customs. Many of these extra sets can be sold for about what you paid for them, well if you bought them or of the classifieds here, and, to me, that's part of the cost of the hobby.
