Hi fellow poker players!

I'm currently playing with the thought of hosting a home game a couple of days a month. Since I live where the value of the currency is roughly 1/10 of a dollar, I'll be playing what is a .10/.20-game but with dollar chips which suits my local currency.. I would like to play $1/2.

I've figure out that
200 ones
200 fives
50 twenty fives
50 hundreds will be enough to start with.

My friends and I lack poker experience, so I believe the ones and fives will be used the most.

So, over to chosing a set. I started looking at chips I liked the design of, but it's way over my budget. Therefor I'm seeking advice as to finding a set with 5-600 chips, valued with dollars (1,5,25,100). Is it possible to find something useable for around $150? Or am I totally out of bounds? I've lurked around here for quite some time, and I see that some of the sets are worth a decent car..

Thanks for any advice and if the post is in the wrong section, I apologize and hope mods can move.
Also, English is not my native language, so I apologize for any weird spellings.

:)

I've found a set in my home country with chips that looks like this. What do you think?

These are 14g (too heavy?) mixed clay - composite.

With a budget around 30c per chip, you can do a lot better than the plastic chips you posted.

If wanting to go well under-budget, I'd recommend the 13.5g slugged plastic spade/sword mold chips: either Poker Knights, Monaco Club, or Showdown Club. They typically sell for about 16c per chip.

At the high end of your budget, you might consider china clay chips -- although not my personal favorite, the Milano chips sell for about 30c each, and several of the better ones will sell for that price used in the classifieds (typically 39c or so new). Majestics, Dunes, and similar CC chips fall into this category, along with used ceramic chips.

You may find that shipping to Norway is a killer expense.

In any case, get samples before spending a large amount of money -- it's worth it, and the only insurance you have that you will actually like what you end up with.

I did a search for poker knights chips, and the cost of chips itself is not too bad. Although the total will be atleast double when including shipping and customs.. So that's a bummer. $150 for lbs15 is quite expensive. I could do a search for european stores when i get off of work. Thanks for the reply! :)

also maybe @Gunnar can help you out. He is based in Iceland and has a poker store of some type I think.

Thanks for the shout out. I mostly work with ceramics. He is more than welcome to send me pm if there are any questions. I always carry some China clay's

Checked some eBay sellers, and the shipping is about 1/5 of a normal webstore. So I'm thinking about buying the "Poker Knight" 500 chip set with alu case.

Total price will be ~$120 incl shipping.

I actually visited your website yesterday @Gunnar ! And I think the design of your chips are very good looking!

And also these https://www.pokerchipforum.com/attachments/img_1247-jpg.147970/ look amazing.

Should make a $ version with $1, 5, 25, 100, 500... and sell. I guess most of your sales are domestic?
Most of my sales are domestic but I do make some custom ceramic and send then all over the world. You can throw me a pm if you want custom ceramic.

The set you linked to are 43mm ceramics
