3 of a Kind
Hi all,
Just three weeks after joining this forum looking for buying advice, I am now in the process of cleaning and oiling my first tournament and cash sets.
I scored a very nice CPS tourney set from the classified's section for a very good price. (Thanks again Josh!)
However, having liked my sample set of Pharaohs from Apache above the rest, I decided to go for a cash set too.
The cash set of Pharaohs arrived from Apache in a very dusty state (something I anticipated after perusing this forum). I spent quite some time in wiping them down with a damp and slightly soapy cloth, and the results were very nice (see pics)
As you can see, the difference is most apparent in the red and blue colors. I am debating whether or not to even oil these at this point.
My CPS set however, I've decided to give a good oiling.
After dipping my toes in a bunch of threads about oiling, I decided to do a little test with each color. Results are in the pictures attached. (top row of 3 chips in each pic are not oiled)
The pictures do not do it justice, as the colors really popped in the orange, blue, green, and black denominations (not so much in the yellow T1000)
I did not apply much oil at all. I put maybe 2-3 drops on a microfiber cloth and gave each one a rub-down.
After rubbing them, they did not seem oily/shiny, just clean and vibrant. I think this is because I used such a small amount of oil and I rubbed them clean rather than saturating them in oil for absorption. I don't really see the need to let them dry out on paper towels for 10+ hours. Am I correct in this?
I also worry about the labels. How important is it to keep oil off the labels during this process?
I've enjoyed this forum a ton so far, and the insight and knowledge I am slowly acquiring is very exciting. Thank you all for the good times! I just thought I'd share what I've been up to so far in my newbie journey.
