No more free parking at MGM resorts (1 Viewer)

If you're staying at an MGM property, do you have to pay to park there during your stay?

Room + hotel resort fee + parking fee + parking space resort fee

FYP - parking space resort fee includes use of perimeter lines and parking wheel chock

Saw this in my email today.

Dear 200 Motels,

MGM Resorts International is taking steps to implement a $90 million parking strategy to expand parking availability, implement technology upgrades and reduce the hassle and frustration resulting from outdated and inefficient facilities.

In order to fund these investments—and the ongoing maintenance and capital improvements of our parking facilities—we will be instituting fees for self- and valet parking. Fees will begin to roll out at our Las Vegas hotels on June 6, 2016. These rates remain significantly below those of other highly popular tourism destinations.

As an M life Rewards Member:
• Once you've achieved Pearl tier status or above, you will receive complimentary self-parking.
• Once you've achieved Gold tier status or above, you will receive complimentary valet parking.
All parking is subject to availability.

The environment in Las Vegas has changed dramatically in the decades since amenities like low-quality dining, lodging and free parking were offered to attract customers. Growth in tourism and our local population—including many more cars on our local roadways—requires more parking availability, more efficient, modern parking systems and more frequent maintenance and upgrades to our aging facilities—all of which come at significant cost.

We have come to this decision with a great deal of care, particularly knowing we would be breaking with Las Vegas tradition. We are committed to continuing to develop the Las Vegas guest experience and hope that you will recognize the improvements during your next trip to one of our Las Vegas resorts.

Click here for a complete overview of our parking policy.

Sincerely,

Jordan Salmon

Implement a $90 million parking strategy, eh?

Reading between the lines "we already fleece you inside the casino, now we can fleece you outside too!"

I think they expect to make $90 million in parking revenue, not spend $90 million upgrading parking

Let's see....

Airfare $$$$$ and shitty experience including nickel & dime fees
Food $$$$$.
Gambling $$$$$ (including higher minimums, worse rules, more crowds)
Hotels $$$$$ (harder to get comps, more annoyance fees). Resort fee, parking fee?

Going to Las Vegas now has more in common with traveling to Disney World or New York City for a weekend than it does with what the experience of Las Vegas has traditionally been.

Been there, done that. I'm staying home and going to a local casino if I get the urge.

Go ahead, rub in the "Local Casino" option.

Vegas is still my best option. I just won't be going 1-2 times a year anymore.

Why isn't a Mississippi casino your destination instead of Vegas? Tunica is a good approximation, right?

Tunica is a shithole. A shithole with virtually no decent dining options, and card rooms are so few and spread out that your total options are practically limited to whatever hotel you are staying in (best hotels there are on par with Harrah's L.V.) If I'm going to drive, Cherokee or Louisville are better options for appx. the same distance.

I'll probablly go back to Atlantic City this year, but NJ is not about to be a big "destination" trip, compared to Vegas.

I just go down the street to the Hitching Post. Much nicer, better action, friendlier people, and free parking.

Also about the same distance for me...

But the HP players are much, much better.

A strong bonus in Vegas' favor. Tourists = competition closer to/below my skill level.

About the parking.....

[emoji13]
Well, shit. When I played at the "Post," I had to walk a mile to get to the joint. How's that any different than Vegas??? At least the rake was MUCH lower. I tried harvesting chips there, but some tall a-hole who looked like a zombie told me if I wanted to keep my hands attached to my wrists....talk about deadbeat...later I got even when I told someone the bathroom was available while the dude was taking a squat.

Oh yeah, they run good tournaments there.
