Hi all, first post, have appreciated your advice before on various topic, so it seemed like you would be the ones to ask for this question.

I'd like to get a decent set of chips (not necessarily crazy nice, somewhere in the 15 to 30 cents a chip range, I certainly wouldn't complain about lower with comparable quality), but I intend to use them primarily for a board game (1830 and possibly other 18xx, for the curious) and only occasionally for actually playing poker. The way the board game in question works, it would be much more convenient for me to have a $20 value chip than a $25 value chip. If I had my druthers, I'd like the below sequence of denominations:

1; 5; 20; 100; 400

Some of those have some flex. I'm fine w/ the 400 being a 500, for example, but I've played the game using a $25 chip instead of the $20 before, and it just creates an obnoxious amount of extra counting, with the values the game tends to pay out. I wouldn't mind having smaller and larger denominations available, if they're ever necessary, but these are the important ones.

So, is there a common, easily available but still decent quality set with stickers in these values already applied, or would it be better for me to just try to get un-denominated chips? I'm fine w/ this option, if it comes down to it, but I've realized that I actually rather like having the denominations visible on the chips at a glance.

Custom is also a fine option, if it can be done without significantly increasing the cost of the chips - my experience with DYI stuff is that, usually, it ends up being much more work and money that it seemed like at the outset.

Appreciate all of your help on these, and sorry if I'm asking a stupid, obvious question. Thanks all.

If you can live with a 500 chip, the latest version of china clay Dunes has denominations of 1, 5, 20, 100, and 500. Priced under around 40c each, I think. Much higher quality chip than anything you'll find at 30c per chip or less.

It may be the only budget chip set that offers a 20 denomination chip. Check the ApachePokerChips.com web site.

There are lots of options. Check out Apachepokerchips.com for starters. Plastic chips for $0.15 each. China clay for $0.40 each. Don't know of any that come standard with a $20 chip but I think the majestic has a $10. Or you could always relabel one as a $20. @Gear does a great job with that. Labels will run $0.10 each, so $0.20 a chip. That's probably your best option to get something semi custom while staying in your price point.

Thanks all, it actually looks like the Dunes should do the job pretty well. They're a bit more expensive than I had hoped, but it would be nice to have a decent clay chip. Appreciate the input.

I don't think you'll find a 400 chip anywhere. Custom or 500.
Don't tempt me... when the new P&P order arrives I'll be up to 17 unique chips with two more planned but still need to figure out one more for an even 20 :D

Hard to pass up making a tree-fiddy, especially if you're a Chevy small-block man. ;)
