It has been over a decade since I last hosted a tournament and was wondering on my commute this morning… if the average live game deals about 20-25 hands per hour, does that mean we will barely get through an orbit every round in a self dealt NLHE tournament?

I have to imagine in a tournament with 8max per table we will see at least one orbit. At least I hope so.

I think 1 hand every 2 minutes is under optimal conditions…players that are attentive, with minimal socializing and are experienced enough to keep it moving.
However, I think many home games have plenty of minor distractions and other things that can slow it down.

We have had dealers pass out during a hand.... that really slows thing down

If tournament hands are lasting 4 min each, I need to find new friends. I'll count the number of hands this time around and see where we land.
I'm just saying that when you factor in self dealing, self shuffle, and BSing - I'd be shocked if I averaged more than 15 hands an hour. Never bothered to count, but now I'm curious.

Yea, I assume it will be slow but thought maybe shuffle behind would help at least with the shuffle delays.

We got 26 hands in per hour self dealing at our last home game. 2 dedicated dealers (both ex casino dealers) plus me handling the pots. Was tiring but great to see so many hands.

EDIT - This was cash, not tournament, as you were...

We played 10-handed last week with half newbies, half experienced players, lots of chit-chat and BS-ing. We were getting about 18-20 hands per hour. It of course sped up as the newbies got knocked out but I think in a self-dealt homegame 20 hands per hour is about right.

We use two decks, BB shuffle.

Thanks for the kind words, I’m glad you like it. Cull and add requests are welcomed! I’m always tweaking the mix….

4 hands if we are playing Archie. We haven't played NLHE is a decade, so I can't help you there.

Haha. I can only imagine “ok fellas. I know it’s been 15 years since you last played poker so let’s start out with 2-7 scooby dooby pick a seat and let’s boogie’ any questions? Refer to this card.” Lol

I never counted, but will next home game. I use two decks and try to keep it going since conversations and drinking tend to slow the game down.

Played 7 hours yesterday and was too drunk to count how many hands per orbit/round. We probably got through 10-15 at most because I never dealt more than two hands and in a single round.
