Been playing a bunch of smaller stakes live recently . 50c/$1 to $1/$2 NLHE and I continue to be intrigued by how poor the SB and BB play is.

Seems like no matter the game, there is always 1 or 2 players per table who if limped to, or even a small raise sizing, always bump it like 2x or 3x the previous raise. It's not that they are employing this strategy 50% of the time or less, its closer to 90% of the time you can expect this same play

Whenever these specific players are in the blinds, the whole table almost knows to limp or call cheap enough because if the SB or BB does their usual tactic they will have appropriate odds to flat call and play in position the rest of the hand.

Any feedback on why a player would continue this strategy 90%+ of the time?

The only answer I have is that they like to build pots, not something i would usually see from out of position.

Anyone

Their logic is probably that if they're in a pot, they want it to be a bigger pot by raising, irrespective of their position or their holdings. More money in the pot may give them justification to play their subpar hands postflop.

Because they're bad players who know nothing about position and pot control. They're level 1 thinkers who see a decent starting hand with a bunch of limpers, and think "Oh, I have the best hand, I should raise", but they know nothing about bet sizing, so they price everyone else in, and unless they crush the flop, are just dooming themselves to lose money.

I think this nailed it.

Oh snap!! i didn't think i was doing it that much..

Talking more about Joey splash

LOL.

I'm still have a lot to learn on the cash game side of things. All very new to me. Pot control/ position etc.
But yes, Joey Splash likes to GAMBOL! Which for him seems to be to get the pots BIG pre flop and try and steal post flop.

I actually used it a couple of times the other night when i was UTG or UTG+1 and i had AA or AK i would flat call the BB knowing Joey splash was going to raise. Him or Matt. who were 2 seats to my right. Knowing they were going to do that 90% of the time was great. Don't ruin it !!LOL

not going to ruin it. just pathetic they dont pick up on their own huge leaks in their games

They might think OP is a hopeless nit on a log who can pushed off AJ and better even when in position because nits gonna nit when playing nitty.

More likely it's just a serious case of lolaction though.

No. i didn't think you would tell them. But even if you did i don't think would matter. Some peoples style is very aggressive. They feel its a winning strategy. Which to some extent it can be. But probably when used strategically and not like you say, 90% of the time.

What if 90% of the time it is used strategically?

LOL>. my mind just popped.!! ....

But yes. If 90% is your style and you get payed off. And you know when to fold the follow up bet post flop. Then sure, 90% Strategery FTW!
@Jimulacrum has similar style. But unlike Jim, I think the OP is also saying "why does the raiser make it priced right for the blinds to flat call? rather than raise bigger and isolate, and more importantly, why do they do it out of position 90% of the time?"

EDIT: I meant Jim has aggressive pre flop style,. Not that he likes to get flat called out of position.

LAGtards often can not help themselves. They likely don't know this particular play is bleeding them dozens of bb per session because the rest of their game is so volatile that the costs of an OOP pot sweetener ten or twenty hands per session gets lost in the noise.

Note that a short stack strategy is going to slaughter this play, more so when the short stack is to the right of the LAGtard. Limp top 10% hands to the LAG, let him put in the pot sweetener raise which is called around the table and then jam all in. It is like printing money, requires minimal skills and no post flop judgement - think of it as getting 2-1 flipping a coin.

It is good for the game though -=- DrStrange

(Trump voice) "People tell me that Jim will get flat in any position you want. I don't know. Someone should look into that".
