I undeleted the posts.

Sorry, it's early. Didn't see that comment by OP. Thread-crapping is like the high point of any mod's day, and to experience that at 8am got me all antsy in my pantsy.

For what it's worth, my feeling is that the market dictates price. He likely listed them around the price he paid, but if it's too high for the current market, they won't sell and Scott can either lower the price until it's just right for someone or decide to hold until a time when prices are at an optimal level.

GLWS!

No harm in listing high and letting them sit a bit. Let offers come in.

My thinking for price was more along the lines of - If I was looking to build this set now, approximately how much would it cost me to do so. As a buyer looking for a set this size, I think it would probably cost more than the listed price, provided you could even find the chips, which is doubtful. So Im probably looking for the one person who wants "this" set, as opposed to the marketplace. These sales are probably more appealing to International members, as they can get a set they want shipped for reasonable rates and then sell off any extras locally at premium prices.

Great set Scott!! Of the solid sets, it ranks right up there for me... Beauty!

And I think Dave and Andrew are right on the pricing for those...

Now, when Scott invited price discussion, or price check more precisely, I don't think he was necessarily inviting people to post what the set was worth for THEM... That's kind of irrelevant really... Every person on PCF will have a different view on how much they would pay for this set... What he was looking for (I think) was how the set was selling for nowadays, which again, has nothing to do with personal views of the set... I still don't think it's cool to post on his thread how much one thinks the set is not worth for him what the market is commanding. But that's just me... It seems Scott is way more understanding than I am... :p

I try really hard not to be a jerk. Maybe I need to try harder, I dunno. It seemed like an invitation to an open conversation about price. But go ahead and re-delete my post if that's the right thing to do. I don't want to mess up anybody's sale.

No, I think it was a legitimate question/discussion: "Why are these Paulson suits-mold hot-stamps valued more than other hot-stamped non-casino chips?"

I also think the answers supplied were enlightening to those not really familiar with the various options, and helps justify the pricing differences between the different sets.

Thanks Paulo. I look at the responses to determine who on this site has good taste :D. I don't have a problem with someone chiming in with what they are worth to them, but my rule of thumb is don't throw out a price like that, if you're not willing to back it up. If someone says they are worth a buck a piece to me, I feel they should be ready to buy the chips if I accept that price...otherwise try to keep your opinion to the general market value.

@upNdown - No Offense taken. Everyone has different opinions. When I said you were comparing apples to oranges, I was inferring that you were talking about two totally different chips (IMO). I wasn't advocating that one should be worth 3X the other, but pointing out some of the differences that might sway opinion on value.

We differ here... Which is also irrelevant since this is Scott's WTS thread not mine or yours.

The discussion is very cool, interesting and enlightening but as I said IMO, doesn't belong in a WTS post... At least not in mine... It belongs somewhere else...

But as the OP said, he is cool with it...

To be fair, this did not start as a WTS thread... it started as price check request with a "Wanted" prefix. If then got edited into a "For Sale" thread after the OP got the info he requested.

It probably should have been two separate threads entirely, in two separate sections of the forum. The pricing discussion is now a distraction to the (potential) sale.

Would normally agree with you, but Scott actually asked for opinions on the current value of the chips. That changed everything imo, in terms of what was 'proper' discussion itt.

Thats not correct. It started as a WTS with a sales price. I also invited feedback on pricing since I was curious what the market might be. I had the term "Price Check" in the title which is not permitted. Tommy reached out to me and asked me to edit the title.

My apologies - I thought it was a "Wanted" thread.

Regardless, you did ask for pricing input, which really does not belong in the Classifieds. In my opinion, that discussion should take place elsewhere on the forum.

Why are you even posting here? Don't you have boxes to pickup? That uhaul isn't going to drive itself!

I guess I don't see any issue with the discussion, given that its my WTS Ad. If I started a separate thread, Id get the same responses, but people may indirectly connect the discussion with a different classified.

There is some value to me to understand how far off my pricing may be. I still don't think its outrageous, but I am most likely not going to be discounting much just to complete a sale.

Personally, I think asking for feedback up front had a pretty positive effect on the type of responses you received.

None of the "glws, too rich for my blood" posts. Almost none, anyway. ;)

In any case, GLWS, Scott. Hope they sell high; better for my set's valuation. I was sorta planning for an auction format, and let the market bidders decide what they are 'worth'. Watching yours with interest. (y)

That's actually an interesting unknown. Are the Paulson GCR chips more valuable in silver foil -- since those were initially the most desired (and therefore the most ordered)? Or are the gold foil chips more valuable, since they exist in fewer numbers?

Dunno the answer, but the gold foil chips rarely come up for sale.

I think that would depend on who wants which one more and has more money. :D

GLWS!

I totally agree

Supply and demand.

Some people will equally like BCC or Paulson, even the Paulson mold, it all dependends on how many compared to how many are offered at a point in time. Sometimes, rarity will even push price up on "ugly" items.

Very nice chips by the way.
GLWS

I think your comparing apples to oranges. If comparing Paulson Fun Nites to Paulson GCR's I much prefer the GCR stamp. BCC GCR vs. Paulson GCR, I prefer suits mold over Sun Mold. Paulson Fun Nite vs BCC Fun Nite, I think Paulson is preferred both by feel and brighter colors, though I can't say Ive ever handled the paulson version. I can't really speak to pricing for the BCC chips.

Hi all, im pretty new here. Slightly off-topic maybe, but I hoped someone could point me in the direction of a newbies guide to different molds of THC / BCC chips (suits/suns etc) and some info on why certain molds are more desirable. Thanks in advance!

welcome. I will let @BGinGA point you in the direction of any resources, but in general, molds will be a matter of preference. The mold can make the chips feel/sound different, which is why everyone's advice will be to get samples before you buy. For some its just a matter of looks.
