Paulson RHC Relabel to Tournament Set (3 Viewers)

These chips have a great feel when playing with them. Have gotten two games in so far. Planning to use them for my year end Christmas game on the 29th.

Dealer buttons are ordered, I hope to have the set complete by the end of January.

Thanks,
Grant

Adding a spot for dealer buttons when they arrive.

The only mistake I've made so far is that the NL $100 and HS $500 are a little too easy to blend together in stacks. I can live with it for now until I can afford a replacement. Too bad the NL $500 were so limited. They are very easy to spot.

Thanks
Grant

Any interest in sample sets? I should be able to pull off two complete sample sets (all denoms and dealer button).

I was planning on a raffle or auction for charity (or one of each). The cost of the $500k and $1M chips make them expensive samples.

Thanks
Grant

Nice job! I'm in Vancouver, too. Tony the Chanman recommended Gear, and I can see that the product quality is superb!

Thanks. Very very happy with the Gear labels.

Picking up dealer buttons this week, so the set is almost done.

Played my Christmas tourney with 14 people last Friday. It is a crazy low cost multi rebuy tourney (had 45 rebuys), over 24M in play.

The chip breakdowns worked great and I love the feel of the Paulson chips.

Thanks,
Grant

Hell YES! I absolutely love how this set came together and was just thinking about how awesome (if unlikely) it would be to have a sample set. Charity auction sounds fantastic!

Hi Grant

Ive got a relabeled set too.

I like yours because the labels look like they are supposed to be there. That is a bit of a trick that you have really nailed. I think the biggest compliment i get for my set is where people don't notice there are labels on them till you point them out.

all round great job!

Hi, Grant! Nice to see other fellow Vancouverites here on PCF!

FIrst, I just want to say that your relabeled tourney set looks awesome! I'm not sure how long it took you to amass your RHC chipset before embarking on this project, but it must have been a labour of love, and well worth the time and effort.

I dunno if you've perused it, but I've got a thread entitled "Theoretically speaking...." in the Poker Chip General subforum, because I've been playing around with the idea of doing my own clay cash set. My leanings were to go with a 100% custom CPC order, but I realize I might overspend due to order minimums of 100 per denomination (and I've potentially got 6). But I see that your relabel of Paulson's RHC sets with Gear's beautiful laminated labels gives me a possible other option, if I can find RHC's in reasonable numbers that match my breakdown needs.

I guess my first question is, how do I know which casino chip series is done with RHC, as opposed to THC? And do all RHC chips have the same depth of recess that can handle a Gear-made laminated label? Gee, I just thought, I should also address this to the Gear-man himself, but would appreciate any answers you and anyone else here can give.

Thanks - Berny

Appreciate the positive feedback. Any of the Paulson chips can be relabelled, it is a matter of preference and the RHC tend to cost a lot less.

If you search the forum there should be examples of all the different Paulson chips. I'd love to do a cash set with milled THC sometime.

I considered CPC but the cost to do the spot patterns I would want would cost considerably more than relabelling (if you do most of the work yourself, and it is a ton of work to do, I estimate 5-6 hours per 100).

There are many opinions on putting on a unlaminated label and doing a full inlay removal and laminated label replacement. Based on what I have seen there is a noticible difference in the end product. But again it is all preference.

Hopefully you make it out to one of Tony's games and can meet everyone. Gear and other chippers can give you a lot of advice.

Thanks
Grant

Sure. I will add pics later, am done for the night. Worked wonders on the Para-A-Dice too! I am stoked.

Disclaimer - I do not know if there are any long term issues with this process. I am only starting with 4 chips to see how it goes.

1. Cut down the middle of the inlay with a sharp knife at a 90 degree angle to cut into the plastic covering of the inlay. (I used a box cutter) Peal up an edge of the plastic

2. Cut a smaller cut in the middle to make another edge.

3. Pull up on the plastic, but do it slowly so that it pulls up on the paper underneath as it comes up (to help loosen it).

4. The plastic comes off pretty easily.

5. Put 3 drops of non-acetone nail polish remover on the paper, you will see it darken as it gets wet. This is the step I am not sure of. I used this to remove cancellation stamps from chips and it seemed to work ok. It does dry the chip out, I washed the chip with soap and water after. I will oil after I put new labels on.

6. Pull the paper label off in one peice, it slides right off.

Walla!

You said you were not sure of the step with the nail polish remover. Are you sure now? Any problems with discoloring or damage to the chip? Because I'm trying this without it...and it's gonna take forever.

I have noticed differences between removers (all pink), so test a few first.

Different chips/colours react differently. Most are no problem but some react sttongly such as the purple $500.

For the most part I wouldn't do removal without the nail polish remover.

Which chips are you doing?

Well, If this first test one works, then some 1996 Binion's WSOP buy-in chips. If it continues to be so hard, maybe not so much.
Took me close to 15 min to get all the plastic layer off both sides, but i suspect i need a sturdier scalpel.

The plastic should be pretty easy. I use an exact knife to cut a slit from the middle of the chip to the edge and then pop the edge listing a corner of the plastic (be careful not to go to far and cut into the chip). Then using angled pliers I pull up the plastic pulling from the edge. That should take about 10 seconds a side.

If you use the nail polish remover the safest way is to use an eye dropper to put a few drops just on the label underneath (almost to the edges), wait 30 seconds, blot up the rest with a paper towel, and then remove the label. I find the easiest way is to use a pin to get under the label and again work to the edges.

That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification, I'll try that.

So my wife asks for a sample to show a coworker as I had shown some of her other coworkers during a lunch. I open the case and she is like "How the f long did that take????". I forgot I had previously described the per chip process. Doh!

Picked up some alternate $500s for secondary 500ks for my regular game. The sample set when done should be nice. I pray I am satisfied soon. ;)

Fantastic job Grant, well worth all the effort. You should be proud of your babies. (y)

Thanks! It is amazing how playing with nice chips can up your experience. I couldn't have done this (or wouldn't have even known to begin) without finding this forum.

Secondary 500k. I really like the current 500k, but in low light conditions it can blend in with the 100s (workable, but hey, more chips and all that).

I have asked @Gear to also do a light blue background label, not sure how that will look.

So these new 500k chips worked very well to identify among the other chips. I will still use the other for larger tournies but for my weekly game I'll use these.

Friday i had 10 players, 6 rebuys with a 720k starting stack (20x 1k, 20x 5k, 20x 25k, 1x and 100k). Lots of chips on the table, about T 11.5M.
