Greetings esteemed Chippers.

So, I'm ready for my first set of customs. I'm deciding between CPC or Old West Poker's hybrid chip which I believe is made by Sun Fly. Two wonderful vendors here so either way I can't go wrong.

Thanks to Jim @ The Chip Room a good while ago I was able to acquire a playable cash set of casino Paulson 'Pete Night Club & Casino' (original Paulson chip pictured as my avatar) chips. After seeing the many fabulously awesome custom CPC (and other) sets of PCF members I've now got the itch to create my own 'Pete's' set. I've designed this set to reflect my personal taste and preferences rather than as a tribute to the original chips but I guess it can be viewed as both. So far, this is what I've come up with. Nothing too much of a departure from the original theme, just a tweak of the logo and mostly a reworking of the chip colours:

My goal is to have each chip be Dayglow/unweighted. I've attempted to loosely adhere to some sort of edge spot progression but the primary focus was to use spot patterns I like while trying to avoid repeating colours. On the $100 chip though I wanted to have a tick mark to reflect each of the base colours of the other five denoms (and a retro blue to spot representing the $100 chip itself) without overwhelming the DG Peacock base. I believe 6H18 pattern meets that objective fairly well. As for the $500 chip, I'm undecided on chocolate or light chocolate as the second spot. Leaning towards chocolate. The Jockey mold is what I'm aiming for but I may go with Horse Head in a bit of a cost cutting move if need be. Love both.

So, I'm torn as to which labels to go with! Black or white!? Leaning ever so slightly towards the black but I love the classic look of white labels. Is a double sided chip with each label version plausible here or would it look to weird!?

One question. The actual 'Pete's Night Club & Casino' in Yakima, WA ceased to exist in the early 2000's if I recall so is there a copyright infringement issue in using it's tweaked logo for this home game set? Is it technically illegal to do so?

All thoughts and opinions from this fantastic community are welcomed and appreciated!

Very nice! Green chip is my favorite.

I like white label here.

( spelled Pat's wrong)

I think the white label pops the logo better and is generally more legible.

I like the white version too, it gives the set a bright, lively look.

On the original, the triangular shape behind "Pete's" is colored yellow. Have you tried coloring in that area on your version? Maybe use one of the edge colors, or the same color for all denoms? Just a thought.

Love the font for the numbers! (y)

I prefer the white inlay as well for the same reasons already listed, more legible, brighter.

Do you have a sample set of chips from CPC? The dayglow Saturn is more of s green than a yellow color. It really needs to be seen in person.

All of the chips are great BTW!! Several sets in the works right now with lots of high level edge spots!

Thanks! I think the font works well with the small time casino/bowling alley/funcade vibe of the original chip. I love your idea of working with colour in the triangular area. Unfortunately my design skills are minimal. I may have to recruit one of the wonderful PCF designers to help.

Thanks for the heads up regarding the DG Saturn. I do not have CPC samples. Will definitely purchase them before finalizing with CPC.

This will vary by vendor so double-check with your vendor of choice.

Doesn't look green to me. I have it in my $1 chip and also have a recent sample set. It's darker than DG Yellow for sure but I don't see green when I look at it...

I will post pics of both my samples for DG Saturn a little later. One is from over a year and a half ago and the other was received less than a few weeks ago. My recent one is not as green as the Key West $20 but it's not as vibrant a yellow as the Maggini $1. It now appears a little on the dull side compared to the rest of the DG colours imho.

Dayglow Saturn is a tricky, interesting color. Just get samples before making s decision is all. It definetly photographs differently than it appears in hand.

I used it is my $20 chip, it is a yellow but I feel it leans towards the green side of the spectrum though.

Yes, agreed, in this photo these Key West DG Saturn $20's do have a green-ish tint to them. I guess different batches/production runs can vary slightly. Thanks for posting this!

Another beautiful CPC custom set! Love your 'The Club House' (Blurple?) $20. Here, as with the Maggini's chips, the DG Saturn doesn't look green to me but in .@LinkyBabe Key West post it does. Hmmmm, yes, for sure, the samples are a must before making a final decision.

Yes, the $20 is blurble. It definetly looks MORE yellow in the picture but as I hold it in my hand it isn't the same color for sure.

Looking forward to seeing you set develop!!

Green is the color people have the most disagreement about as it would seem to be the color people see the most differently. This is especially true at the yellow - green and the blue - green divides.

On top of that the interpretation of color X when right next to color Y will be be very different than when color X is placed next to color Z.

This is why samples and mockups are so critical to all design, not just poker chips.

Yea, the whole topic reminds me of the 'What Do You See, A White Dress or Blue Dress' internet debate that went viral a few years ago. The Science of it all is fascinating.

My buddy always calls the 100 dsyglo saturn chip green. Looks yellow ish to meView attachment 110557

After looking at this photo more closely, there's just about a whole chip difference in the height of the DG Saturn in relation to the other stacks. I'm assuming all are stacks of 20. Is this disparity an issue with the DG Saturn in general or can such differences occur across the CPC colour spectrum?

I'll double check in a bit. Could be the photo

Love the Pete's logo! A couple of suggestions: For the fifty cent chip, perhaps use the cents sign? Something about ".50" doesn't look right to me. Also, the small text underneath "Pete's" may be too small to be legible on a textured inlay.

Thanks! I totally agree with you on using a cent sign instead of a point although I've always loved the Terribles .50 fracs so i guess i could live with it if need be. However, I'm using the standard Microsoft Paint program to tweak the logo and I don't see a cent sign option on my computer keyboard or within the font selections. My design skills are minimal.......it's my first time even attempting to use Paint. I'll definitely look to a community designer for assistance for finalization. And great point about the textured inlay as well! Perhaps a designer could enlarge the 'Night Club & Casino' text to be more legible.
