Pirate Gold Poker (2 Viewers)

Honestly I don't recall how difficult to stack, other than to say no one really kept tall stacks anyway. I think there was a lot of coloring up, and making change because a) he didn't have a ton of these, they're not huge starter sets so we ended up storing a lot of our stack in golds that he assigned $10. And b) he was doing a small rake and tips for dealer. I just vaguely remember my .25 stack was constantly dwindling.

I hate it

Seems like an old thread that is still going, but just my input. I actually played a game with these, a local low stakes weekly game switched up his theme to be pirate (I don't know if he's into pirate or did it just because of these chips) and moved venues to his apartment. Small .25/.50 game.

Anyway, showed up and he had these out. I honestly thought it would be cool at first, even if it is not my preference. It just ended up being annoying.

I play with non-denom chips all the time, and never have an issue. But with these I just would lose track. Some look too similar, the values are hard to be logical, and reaching for a stack was just odd. I figured that would be an issue and we just get used to it, I was mostly hoping the sound would make it "fun." Ultimately, while loud, didn't give any sort of satisfaction when raking in a pot or making a bet. Didn't feel like we were actually playing with coins and doubloons, I think they'd need to be smaller.

Just get chips. Even abs chips have a more satisfying sound, to me.

^ this. 100% what i was thinking after getting a sample. Plus even a stack of 4 chips was like holding on to the greased up deaf guy from family guy.

I know I'm late to this party, but I was actually looking to MAKE a set like this, and would love any input on how it could be better. I make police challenge coins, and just had the thought to make a similar set but with various police and Federal agencies logos/seals/badges. But I also want the chips to actually be fun to use.

So what would make these better? Bigger? Smaller? Heavier? Lighter? More texture for better grip? I would definitely make the fit together for stacking.

I’m not sure there’s much anyone could do to make these better. They are basically coins made of cheap metal, they feel and sound terrible. You can’t beat the qualities of a Paulson or TRK. There are many cheaper options to premium chips which are substantially better than Pirate Gold and I’m including dice chips with that.

I love challenge coins. However I can't imagine honestly playing with challenge coins as poker chips
Would be super annoying. I have 6 of these chips the idea of playing with them in a game with chip shuffling makes me cringe. As a dnd gimmick they would work well, as an actual betting proxy they are horrible.

just about every last post in this thread is disparaging metal chips, I think it would be a wasted investment;

Nothing will make these better, besides not using hard slippery metal as a component.

Foil-wrapped chocolate is the only feasible use for metal in poker chips.

Just say no.

People STILL buy brand new dice chips. Like only 0.001% of the population know what good poker chips are.
To the rest of the world they are just convenient gifts at an acceptable price point.

I mean, I did before I joined here. Most of us probably all did.

At a tricky tray raffle last night - dice chips were advertised as TOP CASINO QUALITY over the loudspeaker.

I’m going to start handing out samples to my poker crew in an effort to help.

Another reason these are bad is that they lack visual distinction, especially the edges. The silver and gun metal are way too close in color.
