I'm pretty open as to which set, but I've been jonesing for a coin in center set for some time and playing recently at Harrah's in AC and shuffling those quarters makes it too hard to resist.

I already tried to pry @Redbelly's Silver Birds away from him and I know @RainmanTrail is pretty much buying up the Grove market, but does anyone have anything else they want to part with?

For my purposes a "playable" set is, minimally:

200 $1s
600 $5s
200 $25s

Obviously I would love to get more of all denoms and some hundos, too, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. And if you've got only 500 $5s I could probably be persuaded to buy them up and go on a hunt for additional chips. What have you got?

Thanks in advance!

I have a set of Cerromar Beach, but its more of a tourney set than a cash set.....

Beautiful chips! If you have a bunch of $5s and a couple racks of quarters then I could probably find some $1s that would be suitable substitutions...

Unfortunately I never run or play tournaments.

It's pretty tough to find these in large quantities from what I've encountered. I've bought out about 5 chippers so far, and I only have about 1300-1400 chips, and only about 85 of the $25s & 590 of those are 5s (well, 300 "$5" and 300 NCV rather, but they're all the orange Grove 5s). My recommendation would be to get what you can find, and just keep trying to add on.

Good luck!

I have a feeling you're right. I don't mind doing that, but I'd very much like to get a little bit of a jumpstart with at least a small set straight away and then build.

It's also not immediately obvious which set is the best candidate to start building. I'm not sure what's most available out in the wild nowadays. If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears...

Maybe Spinetti's can help you out? There were recently a few CIC sets posted (check out the Sponsor forum). Not quite the breakdown you wanted but maybe there are more available?

Ya, good point. Tough to know what people have hidden away. I think there were a few largish sets that came out of Puerto Rico that might be a good place to start. Not sure how readily available the Colorado Belle chips are, but those would be my target if I weren't building a Grove set. I really like them.

Thanks, Josh. I'll take a look at the sponsor forums. I did message Spinetti's on eBay about a couple things I saw there and I asked more broadly about CiC sets, so we shall see...

I would agree that the larger sets do seem to come out to Puerto Rico. JTBass's set is a very nice one and would be a great place to start. I've seen a decent amount of Cerromar and Dorado Beach sets out there and I think you could put something together there. Unfortunately, the $1's appear to be in short supply though I have seen a few racks of the Dorado beach.

The other ones I've seen in decent quantities are Grove, Aruba Americana, Aruba Caribbean. There are several other Nevada casinos and caribbean casinos but I've not seen too many sets. You could put together a decent qty of a single denomination but sets seem to be tough. State Line, Shenandoah, etc.

My person favorites are the Silver Birds. The good news is, Spinettis has them in qty. The bad news is, they're expensive. So you'll have to decide what they're worth to you.

If you're going to mix and match sets, the main decision you'll have to make is if you want the V7, V6. And then maybe whether you want Silver inserts or Copper. I think it's fine to mix sets but it would bother me to have a set mixed with silver and copper. You may think otherwise.

The other one that's out there in some qty is Playboy Atlantic City. There was a big find about 10 years ago and a bunch hit the market. When they come up for sale, they're pricey but I've not seen them come up very much. That would be a fun project.

I'm still working a Mullet Bay set and have a few Dutch Inns. Good luck with it.

Thanks to those who have offered their thoughts in this thread and those I approached via PM for advice as to pricing.

If anyone I haven't spoken with thinks they could offer some helpful thoughts on the state of the market for quantity (1000+ total chips) purchases of CiC chips, I'd love to hear them. Please PM me.

I own a larger set of the CB CICs, 10 years ago it was a lot easier to get them, now I see maybe a rack or two offered on eBay each year. They are not as premium a price as the Paulson's but the higher denominations of the Mullets and CBs can get pricey. Usually I see them around 1.25-1.50/chip for common ones. The tourney set JTBass offered was decent price, but did not fit well with my set (except I wanted his $500s and $1000s).

wish I had seen this one http://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/2-090-cerromar-beach-dorado-pr-collection-dump.4909/

JTBass' most recent post http://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/bud-jones-cerromar-beach-tourney-extras.9989/

I like them, they stack good, shuffle good, and need little care and feeding. I do have one cracked one and the center can come out, so that is a negative, but that is what spares are for, but don't drop them.

Personally, I would have liked to get the brass centered Americana ones, those look nice, but they were a lot more at the time and not as playable sets.

Good luck in the search,

BiGGyT

You could try to rebuild my Ramada San Juan set. Love the colors, but you'd have to be comfortable with using the different version of each chip to get to your totals. Below are a couple pics of the full set. I still have a small set between 300-400. I think Dolomite still has a set of 300. And the rest I sold to a collector of PR chips. I've never seen them come up for sale anywhere else.

... and even then, please lay off the Aruba Americanas, Mullet Bays, and Rounders.

What's that word again? Oh, right -- DIBS!

in that case, DIBS on all CB $1000s, $2.50, and first shot at all others.
:p

Here are 160 (80 x 2) north shore club $5s if you don't mind mix and match set.

Thanks! Was looking at those earlier. There seem to be a bunch of singles on eBay, but I can't get a good feel for whether I could count on finding enough $5s out there to get to my minimums. Really do love the design, though.

I'm starting to understand, however, that my typical strategy for buying up sets - find them all in one place or a few large-ish sets available at the same time - isn't going to work too well on this hunt.

Looks like I might have to just start buying up small lots and hope to put something together eventually then sell what I don't use. Haven't done that in a while, but when push comes to shove...

Hey Biggyt, if i had a buyer for the rest I would sell the $500's and $1000's, although I paid $8/chip for the $500's and $30/chip for the 3 $1000's that I own.

You guys can have all the CICs you want. Just please remember to leave The Grove chips for me :)

In case you haven't read my story, I used to work there, and played there for thousands of hours. First Royal flush there in Holdem and in Omaha, my first Omaha hand ever played was there, and I hit a bad beat jackpot there. Plus, I even had my 4Runner stolen from the parking lot there. Tons of memories at The Grove for me :)

@jbutler
@NorCalChip had 1000's of CIC BJs that he was selling. You may want to drop him a PM to see if he still has any left.

Okay, I'm quickly starting to love the North Shore chips. The only thing that holds me back from jumping right in: there weren't even any CiC $1s produced if the Chip Guide is accurate.

So that leaves me with two choices:

(1) Mix the set. I'm sure I could find some other $1s eventually. Maybe even the Silver Birds.
(2) Have some custom $1s made on the Cards and Dice mold at CPC. I actually dig how some of these sets have clay fracs.

Is (2) that crazy? I'm sure some would vomit at the thought, but personally I don't mind.

yeah that would be cool, a semi custom/semi casino. If i cared what the majority thought of bud jones chips, I would not have any. I have 400x$1 sahara hotstamped ones from spinetti's for my old school cash set.

If you want to pay for shipping I could send you a barrel of the north shore 5's, you'd just have it send it back if in the end you decided against them.

Later,
Jeff

BTW the rack that I would be willing to sell you is casino used but in great condition, the other 3 that I own i am keeping cause they are minty fresh!

Here are some examples of what you are kinda looking to do, later.
