Over the years I have considered making a poker table and as well as computer desk, but I've never got around to either.
Realistically a full size poker table likely wouldn't be used at my location and despite being a cabinetmaker of sorts I've never got around to building a computer desk. A bit of design paralysis and having other hobbies I suppose.

Now my poker hobby has kinda ebbed and flowed over time however you can't ignore the cross compatibility of the two. I play online so the real table vibe would be cool. Also there is no reason why I could not use this for a small home game should need arise.

Since there is no drawers etc planned this would be somewhat easier than a typical computer desk, less material too. Get two birds stoned at once.
I may do just fold down legs from another table or just some simple metal or wood posts. I don't think it would be big enough to accommodate a base. Although a small pseudo base/cabinet might be useful to hide some electronics and cables.

Currently I use a really big mouse pad, 36" wide. Having a big padded surface is really nice for daily use. I let it hang over the edge of the desk a bit because is is comfortable on the arms. A poker table is similar but has the raised rail of course. The raised rail should be a welcome upgrade as it would raise my wrists which should make typing more comfortable. I base this on the fact that keyboard enthusiasts put a similar padded riser in front of their keyboards for this purpose. I don't know how a raised rail will feel with a mouse, I think it will be OK though.

I have been off work for quite a few months due to a back surgery, between that and living in Canada money is tight at the moment. It's also cold in the garage but that won't stop me lol. It's not a terribly complex project so I should be able to scrounge some materials to get going.

One thing I really want is a real leather rail. I should be able to find a piece big enough to wrap the rail in one piece, assuming it is not too cost prohibitive.

As far as cup holders, I think I will pass. I drink a lot of coffee, water out of a 500ml Pyrex pitcher lol. I suppose I could 3D print a cup holder with room for a handle, but at the same time I don't want to force anything complex for the project. It might make it too busy, I would have to decide if I want multiple cup holders, where to arrange them etc. I would likely place my water and coffee on a large rectangular coaster of sorts. In the past I've just use magazines to protect desks lol. Maybe a small cart would work as a secondary project.

I am going to do an illuminated LED rail. RGB is my first choice, but sometimes the white isn't as nice as on a plain white LED strip. RGB white can be a a little pinkish and high in Kelven compared to an actual 3000K white strip. This I will have to think about, I could maybe do both.

I briefly looked into rail displays, but that quickly subsided, it looks like a fairly bespoke product based on my quick research. There's a few individual low resolution panels around, but it would likely get expensive and complex quick, so I think I'm over it already.

As far as the felt, I will probably get something printed up from that Chan guy, though that could change. It may not make sense for a smaller desk like this where the graphics would be partially obscured for it's primary purpose. I'm still in the research stage of the specific fabrics.
I might also consider mouse pad material if I could find it on a roll. The advantage would be potential ease of installation as the fabric and padding are already attached and it's easy to clean. You can clean it with a hot rag and I don't think worry about water soaking in too deep.

The size will be approximately 48" x 30". This is narrower than my current 6' desk setup which is good because as my speakers grow I can't have them on the desk anymore and I don't want to place them too far apart on the floor. (I have a 3-way setup that will grow to 4-way or 5-way in the near future.

With the exception of a power bar on the bottom, I think that pretty much covers it unless somebody has some cool suggestions that I could consider. In the meantime I am going to dig into some threads here and start on some drawings.

Thanks for having me, Al.
