Bought my daughter a Nissan Leaf, arrived last night!

She’s out of town for the weekend, and I’ll be hiding it from her until next months sweet 16!

She’ll get her license that day, come home…. And see a big red bow on it

Update!
These lenses are shit!
They were great when I stepped outside and looked around. I’m pretty sure they’ll be great beach glasses.
But driving around is a different story. I don’t have the vocabulary to explain what’s wrong with them, but as things move through the field of vision, they can get slightly blurry or wavy?
I have some cheap polarized fishing sun glasses. I've noticed colors/prism effects when looking out tinted windows. Is that what you are experiencing? Is this not present with expensive lenses?

If you see this in your car windows while wearing polarized sunglasses, you are seeing the light has become polarized coming thought the tinting film in the windows. The nature of the film and how it's made and applied tends to polarize (orient in a preferred direction) light as it goes through it. Your polarized sunglasses show off the areas of that are polarized more than the others, in particular the ones that are the oriented the most different than what your glasses are.

Specifically, it's stress birefringenge:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birefringence#Sources_of_optical_birefringence

and:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birefringence#Stress-induced_birefringence

You will see this with expensive or cheap lenses. If that's what you are seeing, it's actually down to the tinting and you are just seeing something that's present and normally not noticed without the polarized glasses.

After a lot of research and years of
delay, I finally pulled the trigger on a new TV, selecting LG G3 77" OLED.

The snapshot above doesn’t do it justice. My jaw is honestly on the floor. It’s such a massive upgrade over the 65" SONY Bravia 4K LED I put up in 2015. It feels like I jumped from late 70s broadcast to HD.

One of the most immediately improvements is how much brighter the screen is in a daylit room. Day or night, as with most OLEDs I guess, the blacks are truly black.

Though both my 2015 SONY and the G3 are labeled “4K,” the perceived sharpness is massively improved. I guess this is mainly due to the inherent superiority of OLED over LED and advances in software image handling, from contrast to color to motion.

Felt reassured about my choice when I told my friend Michael who makes TV commercials for national brands. Said he uses LG monitors in the studio where he shoots, and is replacing the two TVs in his home with G3s.

The other two contenders at this size and price point were the SONY A95L and Samsung S95C. To be honest most reviewers admit there are very few differences between all of these, even for serious videophiles.

Anyway, I now can’t imagine ever needing another TV. But then, I probably thought the exact same thing when I bought my first 40" flatscreen which was still a foot and a half deep and weighed a ton. (More on that in another decade.)

But here’s the acid test of realism: I was watching a nature video to test the set out. A tiger came walking toward the foreground… and our dog went bonkers. I had to restrain him so the brand new screen didn’t get scratched up by his giant paws… Didn’t see this drawback mentioned in any reviews.

LG Oled is the shit for the price. Image is stunning! I’ve got a 65” wishing I had gone with a 75” instead (size matters). Only thing I’ve noticed is that it doesn’t handle gray very well. Or maybe it’s just that it needs calibration. The GoT episode in the final season that was largely spent in the clouds on dragons was pretty unwatchable.

The 2023 G3s use LG’s new MLA tech which I don’t fully understand, but seems to address such issues.

Forgot to also mention that the sound possibilities are greatly improved, as my older SONY couldn’t fully take advantage of the Denon receiver I bought a year or so ago in anticipation of a screen upgrade.

Welcomed update if so. Mine is 2 years old

I watched a ton of review videos, but this one from Caleb Dennison I think was the one which narrowed it down for me from the Samsung to the LG:

I gather that some earlier sets had problems with settings which would overcorrect scenes where there is either sustained brightness or sustained dimness.

If you dig around there are videos explaining how to find the toggles deep in a TV’s menu that turns these “corrections” off.

No, what I’m seeing with these is actually blurring. It’s weird. But I’ve never seen it on any other polarized lenses that cost forty bucks or more.

Nice television! I am still using a Samsung 1080p LN52A650 I bought back in 2008 lol. At the time I paid around $2800 for that TV  :ROFLMAO: Can you tell me, do you use your TV in conjuntion with a PC at all? Do you have any issues with the picture? I don't use my television for cable or apps, basically a just a second PC monitor so I need to do some more research on this when it comes to getting a new TV but I'd be curious of your experience. Because of burn-in I probably will not go OLED because of my PC use.

To be fair... the whole season was unwatchable, no matter the TV tech.

I’ve only had it two days, haven't tried hooking it up to a computer. The G3 seems like overkill for computer work, TBH; one could easily make do with the LG C series, which is less expensive. Especially if you buy last year’s model. Still a fantastic set.

But as I understand it, burn-in is much less of an issue now with OLEDs. (This model has various options meant to lessen issues for those who do keep their set on CNN all day or whatever).

Lol, when I say PC use, I don't mean work. I mean using it to watch movies and TV shows, playing games, etc. Anyway, enjoy your TV, looks super nice!

Looks sweet! I was not familiar with Cupra, the specs look nice!! Should be a blast to drive, especially in drift mode!!
Yeah, they've only really made it onto my radar recently — but now I can't get enough!

Not exactly mail delivered, but picked up today. Meet Kilo, my GSD service dog, and she is awesome! I know I haven’t been on much the past 9-10 months or so, but I have been diagnosed with PTSD from my time in Iraq, so I have been dealing with that. Wife is already noticing Kilo keeping me in check so to speak.
