So I just received my sampler of scrolls
scroll_chips.jpg

  • And I have some questions. Is the outer scroll symbol supposed to be on the edge or not? It seems inconsistent
  • The $0.50 and the $25 both seem a bit muted
  • Something about some of the numbers and letters seem...blurry to me? Maybe I'm just getting old, idk but especially on the $5000
  • The kerning on "CENTS" doesn't seem nearly large enough
  • Did they stretch the "5" on the $5" to just take up more space, rather than use a larger font size?
I'm new to this so I might just be super picky, idk. I'm just sitting here look at tons of other chips that I've acquired samples of (Milano, Tiki King, Monaco Club/Poker Room, Pharoah, Majestic, Dune) and they seem to have better QC? I even found some Paulson World Top Hat & Cane and while the inlay is differently aligned on every single one, that feels...intentional? (Also, they're lovely chips but currently out of budget for a set lol).

Anyway, I had high hopes for the scrolls based on some things I've read but now I'm kinda ... "meh". Is this just me? Just my order? Love to have some feedback! :)

It's obvious to me that you don't like them. But it kind of seems like you need validation for your reasons for not liking them. So if it helps, I ordered a sample and one of them broke when I dropped it on a carpeted surface. This was several years ago though so maybe their QC has improved?

Thing is, the chipping world has a ton of options. There are a lot of chips people here are falling over themselves to get their hands on - and the whole time I'm thinking quietly to myself 'what's the big deal'?

So the best thing to do is figure out what your budget is and go from there. I think you'll find most of the mass produced chips on the market to be lacking in some way or another. But eventually you'll find something you like and then you'll be set.

Until you come back to PCF the next day of course :)

Scrolls are likely the lowest quality ceramics available. QC is terrible. If you buy a set and try to add on later, you will very likely get chips that have a different shade of color. You should avoid these.

Scrolls are not well-regarded here. If you like them then by all means use them, but be warned they tend to have QC issues and inconsistent colors, especially if you buy them from multiple sources. Most people prefer both the look and feel of other ceramics.

Most clay chips do not have aligned inlays; aligning them takes extra effort. Most casinos don't care, and Paulson didn't care either when making their various fantasy lines such as WTHC, so the low-effort method is what gets used.

Definitely trust your own feelings, even if they go against the majority! The only person your chips need to make happy is you. That said, the PCF majority definitely likewise feels "meh" (or worse) about these particular chips.

And keep asking questions! And keep getting samples. :)

The scrolls were one of the first sets that I considered when I was a very very young noob. I eventually decided against them because they were just too damn blurry.
