Hey all,

I wanted to ask if my breakdown looked good. Tear it apart if you need to. I wanted to get everything now basically so I can future proof my set and get a cheaper price per chip by buying all at once.
As my friend group and playgroup expands, I want to order my custom cash set to accommodate all the different stakes my friends like to play at.

Most of my concern comes with my inexperience with 1/2. I am playing in my first game tonight hopefully and it will shed some light for me, but is 400 chips good enough for 8-10 players max for home games? I doubt my friends will wanna go with 1/2 games often or buy in for more than 2 bullets at all.

I usually make long posts expalining every bit of my thoughts, but I'll spare you all a novel this time and just post my updated sheet I'm working on. Let me knoe if I screwed up or if you have questions!

I’m personally okay with this breakdown. I could stand less quarters and $1’s in favor of other chips, but it’s ultimately gonna depend on how your game runs.

For 8-10 players, Id personally not go over 160 quarters.

8, 8, 8 breakdown for .25/.50? What kind of monster are you?!?

I'm not a monster, I'm a crocodile!

And that was the original breakdown I was suggested here and used for set efficiency with minimal chips, I havent figured out what breakdown is best yet. I have notes below some of the stakes for other breakdowns that may work better haha

Understood, I'll take note.

Is 4 racks of 5s sufficient enough for a table of 1/2?

If you’re certain that no one is buying in more than twice, I think that 4 racks of 5’s will suffice with the $25’s and Hundo’s to back it up just in case.

I ran a .25 and .50 game with a 40.00buy in. For the buy in ilId say say 10.00 in quarters,$ 25.00 in ones and $15.00 in fives worked great. No need for .50 cent chips. Extra 5.00 for rebuys.
Guys loved playing with good chips.

Ps plenty of bourbon!

If I decide to expand, what chips should I get? more 25's? Another rack of 5's?

You have a bank of $6k for a $1/2 game. If you’re ten handed, and the average buy-in is $300, you’ve got enough for everybody to rebuy once. In practice, it will probably be fine, maybe you only have 8 people buying in at $200, I dunno. But it feels a bit light.

I was thinking of 40x 100's and 160x 25's if i went that route, but I could be wrong. Just played my first 1/2 game and realized how important the 5s and 25s are finally.
This is what I have. I follow my own 80/20 rule. So when I buy hundos and 25’s, I get 80 25’s and 20 hundos.

It’s definitely a fair option.

I think it might be light but I don’t see the need for more than 4 racks of 5’s for a single table. Id just move up in denoms before going to a 5th rack of 5’s.

4 racks of 5’s for a single table is ample. If I were going to expand, I’d go with $25’s. @Legend5555 what say you?

Also @JustinInMN what you think?
Single table? 1/2 at most? Yeah 4 racks of 5s is enough. Assuming a max of 10 players, everyone gets 2 barrels. That's plenty. This is a home game, not a casino. Fat stacks are a casino thing.

I’m a little late to the party here, but compared to your previous post, I like the decision to keep the nickels in play for a $20 game and play $.10/.20.

Having struggled personally with trying figuring out how to avoid using 6 chips for the blinds each time (2x.05SB and 4x.05BB) one thing you could also do is just play .05/.10 and allow a straddle to .20 or .25.

E without the straddle, by $20 buy-in .05/.10 games still play closer to a .10/.20 game. Deeper stacked poker is more fun and allows everyone to play a bit splashier without constantly getting felted.

Are 100 nickels enough? Or is 200 good so there is less change making?
If you dig around the forums, you’ll see that this has been a fairly heavily debated subject. Some hate having too many blinds chips on the table, others don’t.

In short, it depends a lot on your players. Lots of limps, you’ll want closer to a barrel per person. Few limps, or a dedicated dealer who can make change? 100 is fine for the table

In my games playing .05/.10, 100 feels is workable, but feels a bit thin, but 200 ends up feeling like too many. If I can find a good nickel for my HSIs I’ll probably just do $200 for the sake of not wanting to worry about it.
