Hello, everyone! I've been running a monthly home game for about a year now and have slowly built up my poker room and supplies, but I'd like to know if you think my room is missing anything that would make the experience better for my players.

A few notes: I don't rake; drinks and snacks are free, and we each kick in like $10 for a sheet pizza and wings. I deal as well as play, but I don't accept tips (I can very rarely get my sister-in-law to deal for tips, but she's usually busy). We mostly play .25/.50 with a .50 to $10 spread limit, but we play .25/.50 NL (match the stack) and the occasional SNG as well.

So what am I missing? What could be improved? Am I a donk for not having a hotdog roller? Any suggestions and critiques are appreciated!

Looks like a great setup to me. The next time I roll thru Rochester, I'm gonna hit you up to see if you are playing!! :ROFLMAO:

Couple quick things from my point of view:
Add a second TV, opposite the 1st one....so someone doesn't get stuck with their back to a playoff game or something important.
Loose the Cheetos and Doritos....that cheese dust crap will get all over your cards, table and chips.

Your friends are lucky you provide such a great place to play!!

That’s already a better setup than most!

Chair upgrade and a second TV on the opposite wall seem like the obvious upgrades to me. And, of course, 4 or 5 more sets of chips. :cool

I don’t think poker chairs need wheels, but I’d agree that an upgrade to Gassers would help.
If he doesn't like wheels he can switch them out for pop-in glides or wheels that lock for the best of both worlds. Mine have wheels and no one complains but I don't consider it mandatory or anything. Could care less about it really, comfort is the key for long sessions IMO, and those chairs make my ass hurt just looking at them.

Gassers are good and cheaper than the Ali Baba and Gorilla Chairs but I have played sitting in all three and Gassers come in 3rd in the comfort competition between the three.

I think your room looks great! Everyone has an opinion on how to setup their poker space. Do what makes you happy and enjoy the games!

Do it!

I do plan on picking up another smaller TV or two this holiday season when I can snag a good sale.

Biggest and most noticeable improvement would be to upgrade your chairs to either the Ali Baba

https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/alibaba-high-quality-casino-chairs-with-discount.107756/

or Gorilla Gaming chairs.

https://gorillagaming.net/gorilla-chair/

It will be noticed and very much appreciated by your players and their backs/butts.

Better chairs are absolutely my next scheduled upgrade, I've just gotta save up for a while (or sun run like crazy) to afford a nice set. My plan is to get those PCF-forum gasser-likes from Alibaba when the time comes. For now, though, what I have are "banquet chairs" to which I've added extra padding and new covers. They're not awesome, but they're good enough that a six-hour session doesn't kill ya.

Great setup! Big trash can somewhere obvious, otherwise people will put trash everywhere because they're apes.

Giant trash can and recycling bin are both right underneath the snack table. End-of-night cleanup is usually super easy.

Looks great!

As others have said, most obvious things to me are a chair upgrade and either a second tv, or at the very least, try to find a way to mount the existing tv up high somewhere where all can see it. But even then, the folks at the unlucky end would have to turn their heads, so a second tv makes more sense. But I still think elevating them both would make for the best viewing experience, even if you have to reduce the screen size.

 I am surprised no one say OP need NICER CHIPS yet

Ha! Yeah, they're pretty basic by PCF standards, but they'rec10g ceramics at least. Most of my players haven't even used anything other than Walmart-style dice chips, outside of the maybe two times they've been to a casino, so these are downright high-end to them.

Yep, I get it. I had less than optimal chairs for many years myself before making that purchase. Do what you can do when you can do it. Your set up looks great. That was just the thing that stood out. The $$ hit is worth it in the end!

Looks great! Maybe just get a second tv and some more wall decor to eat up some of the empty white space.

What are you running for your current tv? Cable box or digital antenna? I had 1 cable box and 1 antenna. The over the air feed was 20 seconds faster. If we watched the same sports game on both it was a mess! Haha

Now I go 2 digital antennas and we can watch the afc and nfc games on Sunday then the late game on both tv’s and they are on time. Only downfall no voice remote now which I liked and used to search YouTube tv quickly.

If you have a cable box you can run hdmi to one tv then run the coax to the second tv and watch the same game on tv channel 3.

That’s an old cable guy cheat code for you guys.

You can kinda barely see it in one of the pictures (it's on the rocking chair by the TV), but I've got that wood-burned hand-rank chart I was given as a gift that I need to get hung up. Otherwise yeah, I do intend to add another TV or 2.

That's a great tip, thanks! This room is in our basement and we don't get reception down there for a digital antenna, so we just stream with a Roku. We can still usually find streams for most live games though, one way or another.

I love your setup. The only thing I'd add is little side tables for drinks and snacks. I'm not a fan of drinks on the table even in cup holders. Then again my guys are brutes and I've still had a couple spills even with having side tables.

Set up looks awesome. People have covered most everything. Only other thing I would mention is possibly a bigger rug. My guess is that the chairs come off the rug when players slide back. That can scratch the floors as well as mess up the rug when players try to slide forward. Other things already mentions or taken care of:

Fan - it is important to keep the air circulating especially with closed in or smaller spaces. 8/9 players in close spaces for extended periods of time can create unwanted smells as well as heat up a room. My room is a pretty good size. Temp usually starts at 68 and ends up in the 74 range later in the night. Fan is a must.

Trash cans - can never have enough of these. Squirrels are messy and a lot of them are blind especially if a trash can is more than 3 feet away.

Cheetos and Doritos - they are really good, but that cheesy dust does get everywhere - pretzel rods for the win. I also like the small packs of cookies - Oreos, butter butters and chips ahoy. And the bit size individually wrapped candies. Halloween is coming up - great time to stock up on all those bit size candy packs.

Chairs - good chairs are so important and great investment. If people are comfortable they will stay longer which is very important when you are stuck.

TVs - yes, on all walls so players can see easily. Most poker players are sports junkies. They want to see the games.

Great set up!

I like to drink out of a glass or cup, and I like ice. If you provide chop sticks for the Cheetos I'd use them.

I prefer to wash my hands with soap and water, but some Sanitizer would be nice, along with some tissues.

I've got a few small stackable tables, they're just tucked behind the dealer station and you can't see 'em in the pictures.

There're cups and an ice bucket on top of the drink fridge (with my small liquor selection, too). I normally have hand sanitizer at the snack table, but I ran out. Tissues are already in the room.

Me. You are missing me. Where have I been all your life, you might ask?

Nice setup! Unfortunately I'm clear across the continent.
Hey, I'm always recruiting, so keep Rochester in mind if you ever decide to leave Canada but still want to live somewhere way too cold

I agree . I won’t say anything if it does happen, especially with a new player. But I’ll get semi-tilted and distracted watching each bead of water roll down the Coors light 22oz. Or when Steve is showing the proper arm-block techniques over his Faygo Redpop I’m losing my shit but not gonna say anything.

If he spills it we all shame him in a fun matter with towels ready.

Same. Even though I have many tables on hand, one of my guys (who is now known as relish) decided to set his fully loaded hot dog down on the poker table while he adjusted his chair. The hot dog promptly rolled onto it's side and it's condiments painted my new brand topper. It cleaned up nicely but I still don't know what possessed him to do that
