Zelduck here. Mid 30s nerd from California. Sharing my recent foray into poker and PCF.
I recently watched Han Solo and thought, hey space poker! Remember when everyone played Holdem? Looks fun!
Bought a deck of Sabacc cards and bought slowplay “clay” (actually slugged ABS, I didn’t know any better) chips off of Amazon because I explicitly wanted chips that looked like they could fit into Star Wars and not normal earth poker.
After hosting Sabacc a few times, I start remembering how much fun Texas holdem with my family was in the 2000s. One of my Dad’s only hobbies is online play money poker, so I started studying modern poker theory and practicing online and playing with him.
Hosted poker for my birthday with my slowplay chips so he could have a real poker night. We just played 1c/2c. Everyone had a blast.
Then I take my wife to Vegas to eat, watch shows, play slots, shop, and … poker!
Played my first live casino game. $1-$3 at the Venetian. Everyone was friendly and had a great time. Made some money and had nervous shaky hands for hours. All good fun.
I took a $1 Venetian poker chip home as a souvenir from the game, and that’s how I ended up here. Suddenly I’m learning the name Paulson, what’s clay really, why are my chips so much heavier than casino chips, and how do I get more of these gorgeous babies?
After lurking and absorbing your fine opinions, I settled on jumping into Apache’s latest production run of china clays. My 700 pharaohs get here on Monday and I can’t wait. I really wanted nickels, a white $1 similar edge spots to Venetian, a budget higher than Amazon slugs but not quite enough for ceramics or Paulsons, and the light feel. Pharaohs fit the bill and I jumped right in.
Going to host some friends for 5c/10c with the new chips and I’ll give my review on how they hold up. Then it’s 5c/5c with my folks.
If they ever want to play tournaments, I’m already eyeing br pro’s king of the river chips… let’s not go too crazy, right?
Thanks for all the help!
