My wife, who knew him from her days in the governor's office and occasionally traveling with the team, says he was the genuinely good person he was portrayed as in the media.

RIP, Pat.

A lot of people take the role of a sports owner for granted, until your team has a bad/incompetent one. I think they are really important for providing direction for the franchise, and establishing the culture. Pat was one of the best! Many former players say he was one of the most competitive people they had met (he used to be a triathlete). They also note that he was genuinely concerned about his players, and their families (many former players affectionately refer to him as Mr. B). He also understood how important the Broncos are to this region, and took it as a public trust. Under his stewardship, the Broncos won over 300 games in 30 years, and had more Super Bowl appearances, than losing seasons. Pat was heavily involved with the league, serving on several committees to help push the league forward. His enshrinement into the HOF this summer is well deserved, but I wish it would have happened a while ago, when still had his facilities. That way he could have been a part of it. @ChaosRock is correct. The Broncos haven’t been the same since he stepped away from day to day operations a few years ago.
I think the Broncos said it best in their press release: “Heaven got a little more orange and blue today.”
RIP Pat! :(
