Drove 6 hours to Indiana to buy an antique roulette table. According to the seller it was originally in a speakeasy in Chicago. Finally have some time to restore it.

Removing the old cracked shellac.

Anyone know a good source for a very small amount of burl maple veneer?

So cool. I would love to embark on a project like this sometime. Not much beats a beautiful roulette wheel with natural wood finish.

Awesome project! Since it’s a tiny bit of veneer that’s missing, I’d just grab a small piece or regular maple and cut a bit to fit. The main challenge will be coloring it to fit in.

Awesome project! How do you plan to test the balance?
Aside from really cool project and being really jealous this was the first thing that popped into my mind.

At the same time, if you aren't trying to run a gambling hall or something, it may not need to be that balanced, never mind trying to keep it balanced.

Gonna follow this thread, looks great!

I would bring it inside as soon as possible. I'm worried about the wheel warping from different temperatures (and humidity).
I would normally agree, except I know that the previous owner kept it in a garage for more than 20 years.
