EDIT: I think I'm already there but I just created a poll for fun

***

Weird, arbitrary, totally personal decision comparing apples to oranges but I'm turning to the PCF community at large anyway because I'm struggling and I don't know any chippers in person.

I've been in the market for Paulson Classics, Le Noirs, and WTHC cash sets. Seems like it's going to a take long time piecing together Le Noirs (would still have to do a relabeling project if I wanted fracs too) and the WTHCs I just plain can't afford/bring myself to pay that much for chips (fracs and singles insanely hard to find/expensive).

So at the moment its between Classics and... the BCC Samuari Palace cash set I saw for sale! Where did that come from? I don't know... I just like them. I'm Ninja Jim. They immediately spoke to me.

Pros for the Classics:
- They're Paulsons.
- They're what I was looking for, which is a casino grade chip that isn't from a random casino. I LIKE the generic aspect of the labels
Cons:
- If I want fracs, I'll have to do a relabeling project, which I don't generally want to do and question if it's worth it for Classics
- I guess in some sense I'm settling for them since I would probably be happier with Le Noirs and of course WTHCs
- I started off pretty ambivalent about molds in general, but y'all starting to rub off on me and I'm not in love with the Paulson mold.
- Chippers generally hate these. That doesn't weigh that much with me, but worth mentioning

Pros for the Samuari Palace:
- Comes with fracs
- Despite being themed, it actually makes sense for me and not some random meaningless (to me) theme, e.g. Pharaohs
Cons:
- I still just don't like casino labels, whether real or fantasy
- They're not Paulsons. That's really all I have. If Paulson made these that would probably clinch it for me right there

You have your talking points. Discuss. Thank you :)

The only con I can think of for Samurai Palace is that it may be harder to expand your set if you decide you need more chips/more of certain denoms.

In every other possible way this is a slam dunk for Samurai Palace for me.

I also selfishly want you to buy them so I’m not tempted to buy them myself every day they’re still listed. That being said, if you change your mind down the road it should be relatively easy to get back what you spent on this set.

Samurai Palace > Paulson Classic.

Same. I had said that I will decide if I want them after my June meet up. I don't need, or want another set. The addiction is strong!

Samurai, and it's not even close. Paulson Classics are horrid.

I have owned classics once. Got rid of them pretty quickly

I have owned samurai’s 4 times and even now whenever I see them posted I have to talk myself out of buying them. They are excellent chips that sound and feel great. The theme is great with contrasting labels front and back. They stack like bricks (there were a bunch that were warped back then).

My brother took my current set but I’m still considering buying them again. They’re so classy looking and have great spots and colors.

One of the best fantasy sets

Same here, this breakdown doesn’t work for me due to currency difference but I still make a case and argue with myself about buying whenever they show up for sale.

Only thing I’m not crazy about is the different side inlays. Would’ve prefered if both sides were the samurai

Pros for the Classics:
- They're Paulsons. (I would say barely Paulsons. Probably among some of the worst Paulsons out there. They’re still descent but nothing to fan over)
- They're what I was looking for, which is a casino grade chip that isn't from a random casino. I LIKE the generic aspect of the labels (not close to the casino quality paulsons. Not in sound or feel)
Cons:
- If I want fracs, I'll have to do a relabeling project, which I don't generally want to do and question if it's worth it for Classics
- I guess in some sense I'm settling for them since I would probably be happier with Le Noirs and of course WTHCs (Noirs are miles ahead of classics and WTHCs.)
- I started off pretty ambivalent about molds in general, but y'all starting to rub off on me and I'm not in love with the Paulson mold.

Pros for the Samuari Palace:
- Comes with fracs
- Despite being themed, it actually makes sense for me and not some random meaningless (to me) theme, e.g. Pharaohs (The theme is almost universally loved and executed well)
Cons:
- I still just don't like casino labels, whether real or fantasy
- They're not Paulsons. That's really all I have. If Paulson made these that would probably clinch it for me right there
-They sound and feel way better than Paulson home market chips. They are also heavier as I believe they were made with the heavyweight option

Ok it's a done deal!! Proud new owner of Samurai Palaces:

We'd had an agreement that he would accept my offer if a more competitive one didn't come in over the weekend. I was on the fence about the set mostly because it was never on my radar (didn't even know they existed) and it felt like an impulsive buy as a result.

It seemed like risking/inviting someone to outbid me by making this post but I'm glad I did anyway -- i appreciate all of the positive reinforcement on this decision!

Good move

Just so you know, someone murdered made a couple of racks of a hot pink NVC themed chip, and an original, beautiful mint chocolate NVC chip exists.
