Here is another long time member of the orphanage, a rack of chips that might be from the Sands Reno

This is an example of a "newb" mistake. The seller claimed these chips were commissioned by the Sands in Reno but pulled at the request of the Nevada Gaming Commission because the chips are non-compliant. (Not naming the casino/location on the chip). The price was ok and I didn't do any homework or think about the story.

I can't find these in the chip guide for the Nevada Reno and I didn't check till much later. That would be a red flag about the provenance of these chips. Same with the mold - I actually like it but the Sands did not ever use that mold for house chips. And the logo on the chip doesn't match other logos used by the Sands.

Look how unevenly made these chips are. Side by side the stacks of 20 chips show a lot of variation in thickness, something that a "name" casino in the USA would not be likely to accept.

So, I suspect these aren't what the seller claimed I was too naïve to ask the right questions and check the available resources. My best guess is these are a 'home game' hot stamp. But you never know, maybe they are a mistake made by a rookie at the Sands Reno,

Sahara Reno $1 Chip

This casino opened in 1978. These chips couldn't be used due to NOT having the casino name, city and state printed on them per new Nevada Gaming Rules at that time. That is why they are still in MINT, unused condition.

Unless Spinetti's bought their stock from the same guy that possibly hoodwinked the good doctor......

Defiantly from the Sahara Reno,. Listed in the chip rack also the guide and the logo matches.

I think I have also seen other paper items with the logo.

That looks a lot better. Logo match - check. Found in the chip guide along side other similar denominations - check. That makes the story a lot more likely to be true, just mistaking "Sahara" for "sands"

Still - a wise chipper will learn to go look strange things up before spending money. It only takes a minute.
