I think this is the right forum for a discussion on rare (or collector?) chip values, please PM me to let me know my mistake if there's an issue with the post!

I have a set of 1000 scandia casino web molds, mint condition. Mix of 1, 5, 25, 100, with a few purple chips that lack denomination. I originally bought them off a guy for $400 back in 2018, neither of us knew what he had. I'm curious to know the value of this set, as well as how hard a set this size is to come by.

Very nice chips!

There is a recent point of reference on these, a set of 380 just sold for $800 shipped relatively quickly (about $2.10 per chip, including shipping.)

I’m not a pricing expert but that thread was recently in my mind, so it should at least give you a rough idea. I’d think a complete, larger, more playable set may fetch a bit of a premium because it’s less work to build one out from smaller pieces. It may also take longer to sell though.

The non-denomination chips are Paulson starburst, and kind of all over the map in terms of value based on color, consistency of shade, condition, etc. I’m no help there, but someone with a Paulson sample may be able to weigh in and get you an exact color to narrow it down.

Very nice set! I think the floor value of this set is about $3500, but maybe split up as 2 sets. Shaped inlay web mold is a rarer form of this fantasy chip line.
Thanks! Any advice on how to do the split? 50/50 or sell some in racks?

Your total is still 1000.

That should probably go as 1 lot, then, for stakes ranging from 1/3 to 2/5, maybe a smaller 5/10, with $19600 bank. The Starbursts should not represent high denom cash, much too insecure. Maybe good for a show'em chip or something.

Or

Break off 1 rack each of 5, 25, 100, and the Starbursts as a T5-base T2k freeze out tourney set (using Starbursts as T500)
and the rest as a cash set with 680 chips for 1/1 to 1/3.

Your total is still 1000.
right you are sir, not sure how I got convinced 6*50 = 450.

Thank you for weighing in on whether/how to break them up! I'll definitely sit with the options, part of me would love to hold onto a few racks, and the other part of me knows I haven't played a game in years and should let them go. I'd guess letting them all go together might fetch a higher price...but then there's always the chance I'll make some friends who like a game every few weeks.

So upon doing a quantity count, I've discovered it's only 450 per case, not 500. So chip total is 900, breakdown in the following:
  • 200 $1
  • 380 $5
  • 300 $25
  • 100 $100
  • 20 Purple Starburst
I wouldn't break them up, the starburst are meant as fracs, likely for a .5/.5 game.

This is almost the perfect break down. If you wanted to sell off any of them, you could* break off 2 racks of the 25s.

Breaking up the set will likely only result in you selling 1/2 the racks, and you forego potential buyers that would look to buy a premade ready to play set.

The colors on these are pretty amazing! Would love to try them out if you ever host a game in New Jersey! I'm in the DC area so not too far I hope

I’ll definitely let ya know! To be honest I’ve actually been full time in a van for the last 3 years traveling the US, but I’ll let ya know next time I’m in the area!
