Hi Guys

I'm not a hard core collector, just like to "acquire" a $1 poker chip to places I've been or played. I'm going out to Sante Fe/Albequerque for a long weekend soon with the wife, and wouldn't you know, they have some poker rooms there. She does it know it yet, but I am going to play while out there.

Here's how I stay married. I'll be allowed 1 poker session. I'd like to collect a few more chips than 1 room while there, so here is the question. Can I go to the poker cage and get a single $1 chip for a dollar? Or will the cashier know what's up and not do the exchange? Or will I have to go through the charade of getting a $100 worth, walk off, kill some time, and cash in for $99?

Will be staying mostly in SanteFe and there is 1 poker room on the outskirts of town. Its Called Buffalo Thunder. Anybody been there?

If it is like any casino I've been at then you should hAve no problem asking for a single chip for your collection

I no t iced you said poker room. Are these just poker rooms or actual casinos

Buffalo Thunder is a full casino with a poker room. You should have no problem buying souvenir chips -- and the $1 is, imo, awfully nice.

I haven't been there in about three years, though, so I have no idea how worn they are at this point.

Ditto Sandia, south of ABQ, but I think their current chips are Chipcos.

I haven't been there in 3 years either but Sandia had the worst game selection I've ever experienced. Last time I was there they had 2/4 limit Holdem, 5/5 NLHE uncapped filled with regs. Many skilled players.

The chips were chipcos, but they had oversized blaze orange pAulson "all-in" chips for each player. It would be tough to get one, but would be a cool collect able.

The chipcos were practically worn blank.

We will be staying in SanteFe, so I thought I would play at Buffalo Thunder. And when in Albequerque, if I saw a casino, I'd stop in and get a chip. Pretty flexible on that.

What Poker Room of the ones in the area does any one recommend to play?

No kidding about the $1s being nice. Never seen them before but that's a beautiful chip.

All of the places down there are full casinos. In Sante Fe, Buffalo Thunder is the best, and the only casino I know down there with Paulsons. In ABQ; Sandia, Santa Fe Star, Isleta, and Route 66 all have good poker rooms. Route 66 has Bud Jones, while the rest are ceramics.
If you're looking for good New Mexican food in ABQ try; La Salitas, Los Cuates, or Garduno's. Really almost anyplace is good down there, but those are my favorites!

Agreed. I second Garduno's, and add Garcia's Kitchen. I also favored Anita's, because the family opened a branch in the VA suburbs of DC. Lots of interesting shops around Old Town Plaza, too.

And in Santa Fe, Mark Miller's Coyote Cafe is a long-time stalwart, plus there's shockingly good Indian food at India Palace (traditional), and Raaga (modern).

You might consider buying 2 or 3 extras for traders down the road.
