FWIW, we have several of these and love them. If this one were wired, I would have picked it up. We do have one battery powered one (in a spot where we didn't have a builder installed smoke detector) - I don't know about Nest's claim the the battery will go for five years, but we are at 2 with no troubles yet.

I had Kiddie smoke/co detectors with a 10 year sealed lithium battery. They all started failing about a month ago. Going off for no reason. They were manufactured on 3/2015 and I installed them 4/2015.
At least with the nest, you can replace the batteries. The detectors are normally only good for 10 years from the manufacturer date anyway. The piece of mind of having interconnected alarms is well worth the investment every 10 years.
I thought that at first too, but both models have long life batteries on their spec sheets. The battery model has six batteries and the wired model has three as a backup during power outages.

Fair enough - I just remember going through this a couple years ago when I bought all of mine (since I have both), and the packaging is clearly labeled either way.
