How many spare chips per denomination?

Just curious to see how many spare chips you keep for a set. In case of breakage, lost, etc.
 
Depends on the denom.

Relatively unused denom: two.
Workhorses: five.

That assumes chips that you don't buy by the 25-pack... And is after any chips bought as sample sets, including some keeper sample sets for future gifts.
 
Hard minimum of 20 but I scale up from there. If I have 1k $5s I'm going to have 40 extras.

That hard minimum of 20 prob sounds like a lot but I don't do tournament sets where I'd have a small number of one denom. The smallest number of chips per denom I have is a full rack.
 
More than 2 but fewer than 20, to be precise.

Ease of replacement should probably factor into it somehow, too.

Just don't get tilted when you lose one and are reduced to 9 (or 4) extras.
 
Usually 5 or so. That doesn't always hold for the higher denoms though. For example with the Horseshoe set I'm building I will probably have 20/15/5 of the $1k, $5k, $25k respectively. I will probably go with one apiece.

With my custom CPCs I didn't order a specific quantity of extras, I took whatever I was given - always at least 5 and upwards of 12. I did, however order a rack more of each than I thought I might need on a really busy table.
 
Never really thought about spare chips.... guess I know where my sample set is going! lol
 
The extras that CPC throws in... that many.

Beyond that, most of my base sets are made in such a fashion that I could never realistically use every single chip, so extras are already built into the set sizing.
 
Spares?
I can't find the chips I want, which is fine, becausw I can barely afford the ones I have. And now you're telling me I need to track down spares??

Larry did, but you have to do the math yourself. 10% of 1k is a full rack!
