SRV tribute set "Rude Mood Saloon" (1 Viewer)

brown theme with SRV for #1 is super which i am guessing why you chose that....great chips, i will be back here in june...(y)

Thanks mate. To be clear (I know I wrote a wall of text) the brown chip will be the $100 (I just didn't have an inlay ready). #1 deserves the big value after all the beatings she took! :)

Thanks, Junior. I do like the idea but I'm pretty set on the 2A12 for the $1. I initially figured there's dot progression from 212 to 2A12 but then later wondered what you're currently thinking (is the progression enough compared to the rest of the set?). I could even go a 1/4 pie for the 25c. I'm kinda 50/50 between the 212 and the 1/2 pie so it may end up just being the pie.

Will see what I can come up with re. inlay :)

@Junior24xx I took on your feedback. I decided against the half pie for my quarter but agree with you, the 212 $1 didn't fit the spot progression. Thoughts on this? I think it works :)

I tried but couldn't make 312 that I liked.

Hey Stocky, thanks for the input. It was a quarter pie 25c in version 3.9.3 from memory. I like it, but don't love it. Cost is also creeping up :S

Also, I noticed yours also exported a 2nd brown chip... The design tool has been doing that to me for weeks. Know what's up with that?

I really like your 212 quarter. Don't hate the quarter pie there either.

Ever consider a plain frac and a 212 dollar?
I'm a fan of solid chips and that solves your progression issue with 212 and also puts money back in your pocket without sacrificing the looks of progression of chips.

Are you trying to match the burst on his Strat with the colors on the $100? I like it. I do think the bright white is awfully contrasty on that black. Considered normal white?

Yeah no idea why. Expired the pic 3x and every time it had 2.

Yes and yes and thanks, that's what I'm going for. A "Number One" tribute $100 chip. Mine is just normal white. Stocky made his copy with bright :)

Yeah, the frac has been a plain blank so far many times for this reason (in past mocks - I've literally got about 90 mocks so far haha). In fact, last night I went back to a plain 25c for this exact reason. But then I came up with the idea of 212 and 2D14 giving me a 2, 4, 6, 8 spot progression which really pleased my O.C.D.

If I do end up using a blank, it saves me lots of money, hey... Decisions, decisions.. BTW, I started grabbing some sunburst artwork for the inlay but it proved too hard. I've since spoke to another member about working on some designs for me. Will see what results :)

^^ Yep, the first two have definitely been considered many times over the last couple of weeks. The next two (with the 4A14) was tried but I just found 4A14 to be a little bit 'the same'. I'd guess most people will prefer the 4A14 over 2D14 but I think the fact that I haven't seen many 2D14 chips attracts me to it more. I appreciate the input and posting of ideas though. It's greatly helped to get to where I am. Things have swung a long way since my first mock up post last year!

What about using a 112 for the frac and a 4A14A for the 1....just spitballing here

That said I do like the 2D14 spot on the one

Hey Rowdy, I tried a few combos of 112 for the frac but for some reason couldn't find a dot colour I was happy with. Sat down and discussed it with a friend who agreed, if 112, the green on green doesn't work so well (as it does on 212). But then couldn't find a replacement colour :-/

4A14A/B is something I haven't looked at yet. thanks for the idea, I'll run if thru the tool after work this evening :)

I used to not be big on green chips (not sure why) but I really like green base with about any purple spot or try LG base with RG spot OR try DG with Blurple or RG spot. maybe also try rotating the spot around the chip as well. Just some ideas

Hi guys, @p5woody has put his hand up to help me out with inlay designs and has been working hard getting some concepts together for me. I'm really grateful for any feedback on these. I'm going double-sided with some artwork on one side and a more plain back side focusing on the denom (likely to be colour-matched to base or dot colour). Fonts and colour hasn't been discussed in detail yet. We are just finalising design concept first.

At this stage, here's my favourite front side design (mainly because I love the sketch style artwork which is a PS edit of a great photo of Stevie).

The problem is; at 7/8 of an inch, Stevie's face really isn't very recognisable.

Steve's worked on a few alternatives:

Slightly altered face

Completely altered face

Face taken from another variation of this image
#4

Here is another style we were working on earlier which uses a different hat image altogether. I think this might look better if the denom is made smaller and the main text moved down a little. The image could then be a touch larger perhaps.

Thoughts on whether this image will work? I've printed out some samples on paper at actual size. So far I think #4 looks best printed.

Obviously you'd need to scale the images on your screen so you're viewing at 7/8" to make a fair judgement on this.

Here they are on the chips and also showing the back side we've got.

The other option is to just remove the face altogether and just use the hat..

And the previous design. I used mspaint to do a quick colour match on the denomination to get an idea of how it will look. Thoughts on this too?

I like label #5 with face #1. The hat is definitely iconic, so just the hat would work for me too. I really like how these chips are coming along!

These are going to be great. I like/prefer the color-matched denominations on the reverse side, but the all-red works, too. For the main side, I definitely prefer the top-left look in post #55. It's cleaner and I like that the words are angled, a-la the hat.

Hi all,

Looking for feedback on current inlay designs. We're getting very close. I think this will be it.

Only change yet to be made will be a possible font change for the back inlay. I'm thinking a "western saloon" style font.

Any input on the colour matching? How does the $5 compare to the rest? The back inlay on the $5 obviously has more white because I've gone with a dot colour match and it happens to have white dots.

I've also changed the $1 recently (not shown here) moving the dots 45deg diagonal.

I hope the "Dallas, TX" prints clear enough at that size.

I know you were concerned about whether Stevie's face would be recognizable or not given the size of the inlay. I also know that it is very late in your design process, but these are expensive and I'm also a huge SRV fan so I was giving this some thought.

To me, besides the man himself, the most recognizable characteristic would be his beloved '59 Strat with the SRV on the pick guard. And to keep with your pencil sketch design aesthetic, there are several great black and white pics of his guitar. I've included one below.

I think it would be awesome to have your inlay zoom in on a closeup of the body of this guitar. No need to show the neck. And no need to show the full body. Have the body in a vertical position coming in from the left side of the chip so the SRV pick guard is visible. Locate your denomination to the right. Keep it black and white sketch. I think that would look sick.

In fact, you could do his face on front and guitar on back. No extra cost for 2 images? Just food for thought. Can't wait to see the final product no matter what you decide!

I like the idea, Chris.

I actually had this (similar) idea early on. Pictures of Number 1 were the first I grabbed when initially collecting artwork but I felt it might be a bit complex or cluttered. Something I've learned from looking through the HOF threads and just looking at chips in general is that less can be more with inlays.

That said, I never actually tried to make it work. I kinda gave up on the idea before trying. With the more simple black and white version you posted, it could work.

You just gave me an idea for secondaries or Tourney set. Front of guitar body on front of chip and back of guitar body on back of chip. Yeehaw, the bank is gettin' broke! :D
