Starting Stack Tubes (1 Viewer)

After some thought I pulled out some excess Airtite rings I had laying around and amazingly with a little bit of poking with a long stick they fit just about perfectly in the bottom of the tube and raised the outer area so chips would sit flat on the bottom.

The inner circle of foam after you pop out the outer ring make good chip spacers, especially for travel sets...

thanks Andrew @justsomedude , I've been using these for chip containers,

but yours should work better

I bought a case of nearly identical ones - they were called confectionery tubes. I got a size that was one click over 1.5 inches and they work splendidly. Filling them is an excellent task for a five year old and it's very easy to check their work with a side by side. Somewhere I have a picture of my daughter doing it for me a few years ago.

Thanks @justsomedude I ordered some of the tubes from ULine and they are perfect for 39mm starting stacks, thanks for the links.

First off thanks for this link. I've been looking for a tube that will fit 43mm chips well.

After seeing these I ordered some and was happy to see them come in. Nice and sturdy & durable thicker plastic. The fit is snug enough with just a tiny bit of play. However I was immediately bummed to find that the bottom of the tube is convex, sticking up into the tube which makes the chips not fit flat on the bottom.

Now they hold 20K starting stacks of (38) Boardwalk hybrids (12/12/5/6/2 plus a Bounty chip) perfectly. (y)

Tubes are great and the top seals tightly but opens easily with a gentle squeeze of the tube. The chips have just a minuscule bit of play so they don't shift from side to side but there is enough play to squeeze to open the top. Except for the convex bottom issue (easily fixed) I'm super happy with these for 43mm starting stacks.
These are awesome. I also ordered the Airtites but they won’t stay flat no matter what I seem to do. Did you run into this?

Originally they wouldn't sit flat and I had to use a long stick to poke them down into the bottom of the tube. You can see the marks on the foam where i did that in this pic.

But after that and having the weight of a tube of chips sitting in them for a while, they haven't popped back up. I would store them for a week or so with chips in them and see if that doesn't keep the foam laying flat.

they are the rings that come with an Model I Air-tite holders.
http://www.jpscorner.com/airtite-white-ring-coin-holders.html

Scroll down (around mid page) and you can find the foam rings for sale separately if you don't want to buy the Air-tite container. They come in black & white.

You can also find Air-tite containers on eBay, just search for Air-tite.

The extra ones I happened to had are 37mm rings that are for Tokens. The 39mm rings are ones for casino chips. Both have the same outer dimensions but the inner dimensions of the ring are different therefore the 37mm ring is thicker than the 39mm ring.

Not sure what size air-tite ring you used but any made for standard Model I Air-tite holders (that normally fit 39mm chips or 37mm in my case) should work.

Did you try a little rubber cement?
This might be a solution if you can't get the foam to lay flat although i didn't have to do it.

that worked! only waited 8 hours.

I just cut about 1/4" out of the airtite ring...
that also worked!

I came across fluorescent light protectors for T38 (T-12) bulbs. They come in 4 ft or 8 ft, and are made of clear plastic, but very durable.
T-12 protectors can be found at Home Depot, but i haven't checked the inside diameter of those. I purchased 3 tubes of 8 ft length for $2.00 per tube on clearance from a local home hardware store (not Home Depot).
The inside tube diameter is 1.6" or approx 42mm and 39 mm chips fit perfectly inside, with a bit of wiggle room.
I found caps that fit inside the tube which are 40mm in diameter on eBay (Round Plastic Black/White Blanking End Caps Tube Pipe Inserts Plug Bung 6mm~50mm)
Here is a pic of the tube with a bunch of extra chips in it. The tube can be cut to any desired length.
It's an option for anyone wanting their starting stacks to be in tubes, for ease of counting on rebuys, etc.
I use my tubes for the rebuys, as my starting stacks are already at the seats.
I also use the tubes to store extra chips.

Do you have a link to the caps you use for the tubes?

Here is picture of the Flurescent bulb tubes, cut to size with the 40 mm white caps on each end. The bottom cap was wrapped with one layer of tape thus making it difficult to remove, and prevent the heavy chips from forcing out the cap. The top cap is easily removed to access the chips.

The tube is great! Now, about those chips.... ;)

The 60-dram size measures 5.4" H x 2" W - I just measured and it looks like that would hold ±42 chips. There are 60 tubes in the lot for $35 shipped...anyone want to split/buy some from me if I place an order? The most I would keep is 25, and I don't want another 35 of these laying around my house that I'll have to explain :)

I would be down for 20.

Just arrived in the mail. These are perfect for a 12/12/5/6 breakdown and can hold up to 38 chips ideally, 39 is a bit of a squeeze. There are 60 in the box 20-25 available after @Couyon get ours. Send a pm if interested ... the extras will be in the classifieds at some point soon.
