Tangiers and the Quest for a Tina Hybrid Faux Inlay (3 Viewers)

We do not know. So far tariffs have not been imposed on any shipments. If there is a tariff it should be small. The bill of lading from China is usually at $.05 per chip.
While the tariffs certainly would apply, it's most likely just getting passed through customs assuming it's a low-cost personal package and not worth the time to deal with duty fees. It's possible that the applicable HS codes were not used. The current duty on goods from China is about 50% so it's possible that customs agents will start to be more stringent even on perceived small-value packages.

We're talking about a tens-of-thousands-chips shipment here. Hardly something that can be considered low-cost personal...

That's exactly what I mean. So many "small" packages (as in not a full 40' shipping container) just get passed through without inspection. I would not be surprised if that starts changing soon. These shipments should be subject to a 54% import duty (tariff) now, before Apr2 it was 34% so if that wasn't being collected then it certainly was just passed through without inspection.

Tina declares them at 5c each, even if they are subject to the 54% tax. That's only 3c in additional to the 47c GB price per chip now.

It more of a 5.4% difference rather than 54% differences.
Which could be seen as tax fraud. I guess if all the government workers are getting fired that they're unlikely to have the manpower to investigate, but one should still exercise caution to not be exposed to legal liability trying to save a few bucks. Just don't sign your name to something you know to be inaccurate.

That’s most likely their actual manufacturing cost. Shipping and a couple middlemen (fair they should get paid for their effort) taxes, tariffs, bribes, etc… probably push it up in the end.

Sure, but import is still taxed on the amount paid. In theory at least, when everything is done legally.

Can't speak to USA law (welcome to the world of import taxes guys) but in UK the liability is on the importer. So you may think you are getting away with it if your supplier fills the forms in wrong, but our tax collector (HMRC) has a long reach, including into the past.

You are 100% on point how it’s supposed to be done here by law.

A few more questions about options @Cratty @justincarothers
  • Will there be customization possibilities? If so, what might this look like?
    • Eg, is textured inlay possible?
    • What about changing the $25 to $20 denom?
    • Is no mold an option?
    • The reason I ask about $20 is for the smaller stakes sets. I recognize not all denoms can satisfy everyone but changing the $25 does strike me as a subtle change that makes a big difference for $20 vs. $100 buy ins for cash games.
  • Will a DB option be possible at the same time of the set purchase?
I’m considering gifting a small set for my cousin, looking forward to this. Thanks y’all

Don't see any issue with any of the above options (textured inlay, $20, alt mold). I will also have a dealer button ready - yep!

My intention is to also setup the art files to make customization a bit easier as well (e.g. chip color/inlay shape changes), but we'll have to see there.

Do I understand correctly that a $20 chip requires the round label? That seems clear from the group buy thread, but just wanted to double check after reading this and I really like the shaped label :-). Thanks @Cratty for this great work.

Yes, only the listed shaped labels are available. Any different labels will have to be round
