The Essential Edge: Official Knife Thread (1 Viewer)

Cool thread! Who doesn’t love a good knife???!!!

I’ve carried a bunch of different blades over the years, from EDC to alternative work locations, etc.

Here’s my current assortment:

I’ve had this little guy for over 20yrs! It is still my go to for opening presents and boxes  :ROFLMAO:

This knife is perfect for a work belt. Sheath locks amazingly tight, and the edge is stupid sharp & holds great.

Work perk blade. Long ago I acquired this hefty chunk from a not so good person.

I won’t call this a knife…. But it was on my back for a good bit at my old job, and was definitely a fun one

And my most sentimental knife. This one is special.

They're very useful for us high-angle rescue/ropes guys, that don't want to carry multiple knives.
So I have to ask — in what capacity do you do so? I do a bit of high-angle rescue myself!

Cutting rope - When preforming a "pick off", after you have the victim secured to your line, it can be easier to just cut their rope than to "lift" them off of theirs.

It's also useful when retiring rope. The old life safety line can still be used as utility rope, and you never need it as long as your life safety lines are.

Sorry…I actually meant in what capacity do you do high-angle rescue! I’m on our County’s Tech Rescue team. Just curious if you’re similar or something altogether different! Don’t want to derail the thread though!!

Ah - Firefighter, 28 years. No longer working high angle rescue, letting the younger kids play dope on a rope.

And to re-rail the thread, here's my current work knife. Not the highest $ tool in the thread, but possibly one of the most used - and if it gets lost, I lose more sentimental value than anything.

The hawk bill blade is useful for cutting seatbelts, rope if I'm called back to high-angle, and really good for opening a new case of coffee. It's been through the wringer (you can see the belt clip on the back, bent to hell and back), but gets the job done.

Introducing a Spyderco knife so prolific.. that I’ve forgotten it’s name.. Chinese manufactured Spydie. Price Was right, so there’s that. Actually, not a bad design and the action performs nicely. Currently at a work conference, so I’ll edit in the name later (For those curious).

Snagged my first ZT. An 0350TS. Initial impression are it's a tank, solid. I think it's a great knife with a lot to love. However there are a few things that aren't my bag...

I'm a huge function over form kinda guy. This knife doesn't have a very peppy spring action... feels kinda weak opening. Don't get me wrong, it opens up solidly, but I have assisted openers that feel much more zippy... with that, you need to use the back assist lever, and the thumb studs are pretty much ceremonial. I can't seem to get enough leverage to use the thumb studs effectively. But it opens easily with the back lever. What's the point of the thumb studs? Weird.

But overall a cool Knife and otherwise very high quality for a knife that sells for $200.

Love this knife. It was my EDC for a long time when I couldn’t carry a firearm at my workplace.

Sweet!! A knife thread :). Was an avid balisong flipper and collector in my days.

Benchmade still a desirable brand?
I think the majority of my knives are Benchmade, with a few Pacific Cutlery (pre BM) from back in the day... :)

ETA here are a few:

Pair of 805 TSEKs (R&L sap pockets)

Pair of mismatched 220 fixed Resistors, ~4:30 and ~7:30 positions on the rig - had to patch and/or replace quite a few shirts over the years because of these (wear & tear from the handles/550 cord), haha

Pair of mismatched (different heels and slightly different swedges) Bushmasters with a lone Delta Raider in the middle (I thought I had 2 DRs but I only found one right now... :( )

Wow, what do you use this all for in LA?

And to compliment my original ronin, I snagged the newer version with G10 scales. I think the original is a much more refined piece of art, but the newer version is a workhorse.

I am going to slice myself open, instead of fidget toy I keep flicking this open and closed. There’s good hospitals in Boston I guess….
Have done work for Johnson Roberts before. Can't quite make out the name of the job you're looking at, but it looks like an RCP on the left, which is definitely not my area of expertise lol

Wilmington MA town hall and school admin bldg.

Just bidding… that’s my life. Stare at thousands of plans day in day out. This architect not bad, plans and specs decent. Some architects… they’re definitely a different breed.
