Goodbye to an old friend.

The Mirage was my favorite place in Las Vegas. From my first trip there, seeing Sigfried & Roy, to countless stays over the years, including an epic road trip in 2005 with my 70yo Grandmother. Carnegie Deli, California Pizza Kitchen, and Rhumbar. The volcano, the glow of the resort, and my favorite Sportsbook.

It was my favorite poker room, which closed years earlier.

My fond memories will always remain. I was lucky to be able to see it and walk through one last time last month.

In Las Vegas, nostalgia does not stop the wrecking ball.

If you are in Vegas, make sure to stop on over today.

"The Mirage Hotel and Casino has a whopping $1.6 million in unclaimed winnings that await its loyalty members looking to try their luck one last time before the famed Las Vegas casino closes its doors permanently."

"According to Nevada state law, before a casino closes, it has to pay out any remaining funds to players."

It’s over.

I have very fond memories of this casino. I am a California native, so my parents would take us kids with them. We loved the arcades, but I will never forget the first time I saw the volcano and also going to Siegfried's Garden. In my adulthood, it became my favorite poker room and I also saw The Beatles Love show more times than I can count with my wife. Sad to see this one go, especially for a Hard Rock casino.

Mirage would make a great middle name
"The name Mirage finds its origins in the French language and is derived from the word mirage which translates to illusion or fantasy. This name has a rich history that dates back centuries, with its usage embedded in various cultures and societies. Mirage has been predominantly employed as a feminine given name, symbolizing the allure of the intangible and the power of imaginative thought.

Throughout history, the name Mirage often had ties to artistic and literary circles, resonating with those who sought to explore the realms of fantasy and imagination. In literature, this name has appeared in several works as the embodiment of ethereal beauty and enchantment. Additionally, Mirage has been used to convey the concept of illusion in philosophical and psychological discourse, reflecting its deeper significance beyond a simple designation.

In modern times, the name Mirage continues to evoke notions of whimsy and enchantment. While still cherished among artists and creative individuals, it has also captured the attention of parents seeking a unique and evocative name for their children. The allure of a mirage, with its dreamlike qualities and fantastical allure, resonates with those who cherish the beauty found in the intangible. As a result, Mirage has become a distinctive choice, embodying the enchanting and illusory nature of life's mysteries."

"Mirage is a unisex name suitable for both boys and girls. It originates from the early 19th-century word mirage, which comes from the French se mirer, meaning ‘be reflected.’ This word is rooted in the Latin mirare, meaning ‘look at.’ In its present use, the word mirage refers to ‘an optical illusion caused by atmospheric conditions,’ a meaning mirrored in the unisex given name.

Pronounced mə-RAHZH, Mirage is a disyllabic name whose emphasis is on the second syllable. Its spelling remains consistent across languages and cultures. However, you may occasionally encounter alternative spellings such as Miraj and Miraje. Family and friends can use nicknames such as Miri, Age, Mira, Ragi, and Gemi to affectionately address a baby named Mirage.

In fiction, Mirage has appeared as the name of several fictional characters across different mediums. Characters sharing the name appear in animated series like Aladdin and COPS, in the G.I. Joe universe, the film The Incredibles, and multiple characters in the Transformers and the DC and Marvel comics universe. Furthermore, it appears in the video game Star Ocean: Till the End of Time as Mirage Koas and as Mirage Farine Jenius from the anime and manga series Macross Delta. Additionally, Mirage is the title of several novels, plays, movies, and video games.

Despite its dominance in the fictional world, Mirage is less frequently visible among notable individuals. This rarity may inspire parents to choose this exotic and unique title for their child, who may as well be bringing newfound attention to the name."

Right? Like hasnt that been a dying brand for a while?
I dunno. In the 80s, you were pretty cool if you were wearing a Hard Rock Cafe t shirt. But that was a long time ago.

The Hard Rock guitar casino in Hollywood Florida rivals the Wynn, Bellagio, and others for being a top tier casino resort from all accounts...(I haven't been, but have heard as such from friends)

Also... just like they closed the OG Hard Rock 10 years ago or so in Vegas and reopened, wouldn't be surprised if in 10-20 years the Mirage brand is brought back...

I wondered if there was a film about the Beatles Love show at the Mirage, and there was a documentary in 2008 about the making of the show, and it won a Grammy.
It’s titled “All Together Now” and available on Apple+ and dvd

The $3 chips are going for insane single prices. Doesn’t someone have like 10 racks of them?
