On my way home from work today I decided to invent a chip quantity scale because, you know, it’s totally necessary to have one.

Anyway, here is what I got:

1 chip = single
5 chips = half stack
10 chips = stack
20 chips = barrel
50 chips = half rack
100 chips = rack
300 chips = half set
600 chips = Set
1000 chips = cage
2000 chips = double cage
5000+ chips = casino cage

What’s your scale look like? Share!

I like the metric shit tonne I'm not sure what qualifies, though.

Like the metric system, you need prefixes for magnitudes that are rarely, if ever, used. I would take out your 5000 and replace it.

5,000 Private Cardroom
25,000 Speakeasy
100,000 Reno
250,000 Downtown Vegas
500,000 Las Vegas Strip

"Did you see that guy's chip collection. I bet he had a Reno worth of chips in there. What an idiot!"
"I bet it was closer to a Downtown Vegas. And I don't think he's an idiot. He's my hero!"

1 chip -- the single
7 chips -- the Mantle
13 chips - the luckbox
37 chips -- the Stengelese
69 chips -- the switch-hitter
406 chips -- the Splinter
1369 chips -- the unlucky cocksucker
9631 chips -- the reverse cocksucker, aka the Notre Dame: "Suck, don't blow. Blow's just a figure of speech."

Jeez. Just two glasses of a Sancerre rose...

FYI from the the Script.....

It showss this in the first few minutes the movie

- [Man] Five hundred. - You won't find it in the Yellow Pages.

Nope. Not tonight.

No? What?

Give me three stacks of high society.

Thirty thousand. Count it.

and then in the last few minutes it shows,

As for Worm, well, I figure we're even.

And after the ten going back to the professor,

I'm back where I started, with three stacks of high society.

That's the way was written. Not the first time technical consultants were ignored, and certainly not the last.
That's the movies

Technically $30,000 is an amount that could be made with 300 x $100 or 30 x $1000.

This thread is trying to invent a measurement system for physical chip count, albeit I think a thread devoted to dollar amounts would be fun too !

Whereas $30,000 is three stacks of high society, my buyin of $10 for most of my tournaments would be something like ten stacks of dollar menu.

I like the thread, so I'll leave it alone before completing my (unintentional) thread-jack

Without dropping names, I have it on good authority that the line was supposed to be "Three racks of high society"

It's that time of the year again...need to re-watch the best poker movie of all time and confirm ;)

maybe...

5000 chips = A Pelican

Hmmmm, actually 5000 might be too much for a Pelican.

2000 chips = A pelican
