As I always use

1. Take Oxy clean max force spray gel, spray on chips coating it all just enough, let sit for 5-10 mins in container or whatever. * you need this to get hard stains, soot, blood whatever out easily.
2. Pour in some dish soap(dawn is best but doesn’t matter).
3. Put oxy crystals in
4. Full with warm water and swish chips around and let sit for 2-5 mins
5. Pull out and scrub it with brush.

You’ll notice once you pull out that stains is mostly gone, clean as desired. Enjoy, these are great chips.

Wow had no idea those sahara chips were in that good of condition. Magic eraser does wonders.

Was that second chip missing the HS foil before it was cleaned, or did the Oxy take off the foil?

No oxy uses on mine.
Yours are mint/unused, as you can see in my first picture the minty one is intact, your condition chips, the bottom picture is the common condition used chip, most used do not even have foil on them or even imprints anymore, therefore whether you use oxy or not, the used chips foil will come of regardless of what you use if not already gone when received. If you have mint chips it will be intact.

No, there are ways around this. @AfterTheFact showed me.
Majority of the chips given out have foil gone, even imprint worn down to nothing, the chips with a good foil intact will remain intact, most of the chips that people will receive will barely have any foil left, maybe some scattered throughout the imprint. So say you even avoid the flaking off, would it matter? It’s not really identifiable. However, if you come up with a die that has same font, spacing, arc and exact proportion to original to re stamp these, I think it’s something to consider as an option.

Yeah, they can be restamped. I've done it, and it's workable.

Most of them have foil flaking off or will be regardless of oxy or not. They are just old, as you can see minty chip was cleaned same way, it’s still intact.
Thanks for replying. I thought I had read in the past that Oxy was a no-no for most clay chips. Not so much just due to removing foil from hotstamps, but that it can also fade the colors in the clay. I've been away from home for several weeks so I haven't even gotten to put my hands on mine yet. Just seen a couple of pics that my wife took for me. But I imagine I will be starting a cleaning regimen when I get home in about a week.

Mine are soot mint lol. Still had to clean them and I wouldn’t use oxy. I have had it turn gold stamps silver. For ones where the stamp is gone or going to be milled its super. Just my PSA.

MORE PICS EVERYONE PLEASE!

I’ve always clean them with it, when you play with chips the oil from hands will rejuvenate it’s colors or add a tiny bit of mineral oil but I play with the chips and they start to liven up. Also another option is diamond chip cleaner.

the above picture I used oxy maxforce and crystals on it and it’s still gold. Maybe foil type varied throughout the years but I’ve never experienced it but doesn’t mean it does not happen, It could but with these, I haven’t seen that.

They turned out well and it’s good it went to someone with the frac rack, good to see a complete(near complete set) in great condition as it should.

Just from my experience, and I normally don't comment to not have someone say "but Kifer said so" and ruin something, but I've worked a lot in this crap in the last year.

Oxy won't damage chips, if it's use is limited and it's fully dissolved. (and I mean, you put your hand in and feel the bottom, and can't feel a SINGLE crystal) The times it will, is when some of the hard crystals are against the chip and it's given even a short time to affect it. If you always use hot water with oxy, stir the hell out of it, and let it cool to temp, the chips will be fine as long as it's for a light soak or cleaning agent.

Oxy will always remove iffy hot stamps. If there is any degree of it not being attached or damage, oxy will remove it.

If the hot stamp is pristine, the Hot stamp will be fine with a limited realistic exposure.

Thanks very much Josh. I do appreciate your reply as I know it comes from a lot of experience. And I promise not to blame you if I damage any of my chips from my own misuse or negligence. LOL.

Clay is durable. And remember, you can use Oxy as something other than a soak. I made a small batch and a magic eraser and used it as the liquid to help break down the HJ on the Dunes. Protect the stamp and even bad ones will be fine with care.

Care is the key word.

Happy to always help if I can.

is it possible to just stamp over the faded/non-existent dunes stamp or does the surface need to be more consistent/flat? kind of want to use mine for a custom set but i'd rather not inhale the lead dust from milling them.

Yes. From my tests, you can overstamp. You might see some lines underneath, but the new foil distracts well.
