Also a couple barrels for the hot stamp sets from @ReallyGoodUsername

And a few singles and some NAGB sample sets. Wow. Hats off to everyone involved in the creation of these. I love my leaded Karl's tourney set, but I'm very tempted to replace with an AS or ES tourney set after seeing these in person. Truly amazing.

That is one sharp Sam’s Town. Very nice haul.

I was expecting some mail today and I just had to leave work early given my lack of focus. When I got home, this was sitting on my bedroom floor.

I was so excited to see what was inside I couldn’t even move the box and had to open it right there. What I saw was this ...

I have to say that the packing was a bit unconventional but very effective! Well done @Th14. Layers were taken out of the box without delay.

And, finally, to the felt (their new home) they go ...

These chips are in amazing condition. I don’t know how they were preserved this well for so long. In fact, as we were unpacking the chips, my wife questioned their authenticity in light of their condition. :D And she also wondered how in the world they exist given the Nevada requirement that old casino chips be destroyed. I couldn’t answer that, but if anyone else knows I’d love to hear the story.

Thanks, Jimmy, for allowing me the privilege of owning this amazing little piece of Vegas history!

I can’t say if this is the case for the Trops, but if the casino goes bankrupt the chips are considered an asset that has to be liquidated to pay off creditors.

I am far from the expert on this, but my understanding is that unless the casino keeps using the chips, Nevada law requires the chips to be destroyed. I would think that is irrespective of the financial condition of the casino.

I’m not sure but I believe Nevada gaming commission requires the obsolete chips to be destroyed if you want to keep your license. The family who owned Binion’s kept the chips since they never planned on opening another casino again if I’m not mistaken. Could be a similar scenario for the Trops?

Up until about 1990, destruction of old chips seems spotty to me. Hit or miss. Maybe they did, maybe they didn't. As the industry became more corporate, the destruction rate became 100%, or very close.

Not a sample set. Not a rack of each. Wow!!! A $39,700 bank. That’ll do! Lol beautiful set of chips. Vegas history for sure.

And yet nary a word of thanks to the PCFers who have liberated and saved all those chips from destruction...

To my understanding “told from a guy that worked there back in the day”. The mob was getting run out of town and they sold the Tropicana. The day the sale was closing, the CFO pulled his station wagon into the hotel, loaded a new roulette wheel and as many chips as he could put in the car and drove off. Most of what he stole we’re the second edition chips . Speculation was he planned on coming back to cash them in. Supposedly, the new owners redesigned the chips quickly . The stolen chips were stored in that guys garage until his passing. Family members liquidated the chips. I picked up some old TRKing chips out of that batch but a good amount of what I obtained came from replacement stock at the TRKing factory when it closed down. One old chipper bought all the TRKing inventory. I told him what I had been chasing, and he sold me a great batch of mint TRKing Trops!
