Mike, you've been trolling me for a few days now, and while it doesn't really bother me, it makes wonder about the giant stick that seems to be inextricably stuck in your nethers -- are you OK? Do you need medical attention?

Now, about it not making sense -- anyone with a dimwit IQ could see that I was partly trying to get a laugh, and partly just pontificating. If you're used to trolling newbies and not having them bite back, you picked the wrong pup.

Do your thing, I'll do mine.
No stick. You seem ok. Im just tired of how thirsty you are to overpay for everything you see. Why don't you just chill out and enjoy a few nice chipsets without driving up the price of everything.

Anyone with a dimwit IQ can see you are getting tagged in every sale thread that is overpriced, just for lols because you will pay the prices.

I am usually very welcoming of new people, and I kinda hate being a douche. But there you have it. I'm pissed off and being a douche, but Im not the only one thinking it though. So whilst I wish you no Ill will and I sincerely hope you do enjoy your new purchases, i stand by it I'm afraid.

That's actually quite asinine, and I believe (in spirit) against forum regulations, right? Here is @Tommy's post in the "Selling" section of PCF News and Announcements. https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/selling.16819/

"Any member of this site can sell their chips for whatever price they want to. Period!
No one on this forum will be attacked directly or indirectly for how they sell their chips.

Certain people feel like its their duty to go into other people's For Sale threads to give their "non-flipper/flipper" approval or disapproval. Or create posts about it elsewhere. We don't need any Price Police on the forum.

If you don't like their price, don't buy it, don't whine about it, and move on. Add them to your asshat list, do not buy from list, no xmas card list, or whatever name you want to call it, but the "flipper" bullying BS needs to stop."

Wouldn't the same hold true for buying? Also -- basic statistics: One person CANNOT single-handedly drive up the price of anything. They may pay more than the average sale, but that assumes then all other sellers would automatically assume that every other buyer would purchase at that price? Now, if we were a forum of 5 people, maybe. But, you knew that. You play poker. You understand basic calculations.

Plus -- I've been a participating member of the forum; posting Pr0n; trying to win the scavenger hunt that @Saoliver put out, hunting for answers; I PM knowledgeable people asking for advice, and have had nightly phone calls with other chippers, taking my knowledge to whatever the next level is; isn't that what you want in a new forum member? Or are you just looking for a Pair to be your 4-of-a-Kind's bitch?

Which brings me to the question: What do you care if I overpay? Its my money. Who are you to actually even say that I overpaid? In fact, it is many of your long-time chipping buddies that gave me the prices I'm paying. Are you saying they're price-gouging me? Why don't you ask them to not do that? Oh wait -- its because you're NOT ALLOWED, per forum rules.

What's the point of creating a free-market classifieds system if you're saying its not really free?

Grow up, dude.

We should take it out of the mail pr0n. I don't think it's Windwalker though. We have an absolute shit ton of new members, jumping at a lot and doing their own customs and solids and everything (I couldn't sell a solid boring solid color for .85 a chip a couple months ago, and now you can't get a white or red at sub $1), we have *several* new members with deep pockets that are jumping at every $5-600 rack that pops up, and prices have been steady for a bit leaning up til now. Add to that that we already had some chippers who were looking to sell off some stuff for non chipping $, and it's the perfect storm.

It's no surprise that we have plenty of people who aim to buy low and sell high, so when given the opportunity you're going to see more stuff listed out here as well. I think or hope it's just a temporary classifieds crazy boost for a bit, and then we'll all get back to it. Beyond your deeper pockets folks, I've just seen more new chippers jumping into sales and giveaways and whatnot then in the last year of my short time here.

What's crazy to me isn't Windwalker, who is doing pr0n and reveals and diving in to various parts of the site, it's seeing new members ask for not easily found racks and immediately be granted them, or ending up with really great, semi rare sets at solid prices. Then everyone's surprised when they're auctioned off or started to be broken down.

So what is this really? What do you care if I overpay? Its my money. Is there a set you wanted to buy that I got? What's the point of creating a free-market classifieds system if you're saying its not really free?

Grow up.
Nope I'm kind of done buying right now. I'm very happy with the sets that I have.

This used to be a niche hobby, and the supply of chips is finite, so yes, it only takes a couple of overeager buyers to drive prices up. I wonder what the market price of the coke giraffes are right now. Wonder who moved that needle?

I called some douche out earlier for having received a great deal on a grail set and instantly trying to auction them. This used to be a community and it's not anymore. The free market concept is what killed it. Maybe it always was a free market, but this place is now just about making profit now. And it bugs me.

That's it, I just don't like that you are needlessly overpaying for everything. I don't particularly want to argue with you, but there I've said it, I'd rather be up front about it.

prices have been crazy lately. those coke giraffs are sweet but 6.50 a chip? 450 a chip for the solid fracs? I dont see it. id still rather pay that then 8-10 dollars a chip for the top dollar boat chips, but still crazy. everything seems to have gone up lately, lots of new members buying stuff up. I distinctly remember several recent big sales that I thought were not going to move because of price and they sold super fast.

@windwalker has not done anything out of line and as far as I can tell has been an active and involved member since joining.
If i had the money to spend id own every set I wanted also, they would be oldschool leaded thcs and trks with history, but id still be buying them up like crazy if it was something I was passionate about and had the means to do so.

@Changster caught the same shit a couple months ago when he was buying shit up, and FYI he's a solid dude, and a good and active member of this community.

I agree with everything Tommy wrote in that post in the selling forum. People have the right to list their chips for whatever price they choose, and people have the right to buy them if they want. if you don't like it, dont buy them. I havent made a large purchase on here in a while, not because I can't, but because I don't feel like the chips are worth the asking price. I dont get pissed off at the people buying them though, I just scratch my head and move on.

I wonder what the market price of the coke giraffes are right now. Wonder who moved that needle?

First, let's start with the facts. YOU (forum members) drove up the price. Don't believe me? One of you paid $2500 for 3 racks of the chips on July 10. Wasn't me. The needle was moved. Same day, maybe the same person, maybe not, paid $522 for 1 rack of the same chips.

You may think I blindly buy, so let me give you some insight into my thought process. I came to this country with $250 that my dad begged and borrowed, and a scholarship 25 years ago. I value money greatly. You may think its overpaying, but I see history and value, because I do my research.

The Giraffes are leaded, bright, minty-fresh Paulsons in gorgeous colors, from a mysterious Casino in the state capital of California that never opened. In digging into the details, turns out the original owner of the casino license ordered hundreds of thousands of chips, but never paid GPI. The owner was going through a divorce, and apparently realized he'd lose half the casino to his ex-wife, and so he abandoned the project to spite her. Their divorce filings are a fun read.

There was a sample set sent out of the chips for the Casino -- 5,600 of them. They were sent out prior to GPI realizing they were going to get stiffed. So the rest of the order never was filled. So, as far as anyone can tell, those 5600 are the only chips anywhere in the marketplace. The price for them was already set by some of you on eBay. Only ONE of you, patient zero, got in at the price of $1.60 per chip. Everyone else just went up from there.

Given that, I think they're a grail set, and plus -- I absolutely LOVE them. So, I paid well for them.

Also as an FYI -- I don't sell for profit. This is a passion project, and I plan to keep it that way.

Not trying to reignite anything, but want to clear up some potential misconception. I believe the $2,500.00 sale was just a prearranged sale, meaning a deal was agreed to via PMs, the seller listed it way over its price so no one else randomly would hit "buy it now", the buyer did the "make an offer" for what was agreed upon via PMs, and the seller accepted. The other link/sale does appear to have gone for what you say though. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but this was my understanding of what occurred there.

Regardless, I love the giraffes and look forward to seeing more of your pictures of them (and your other awesome sets) in play!

No Barrie, please don’t leave the mail pr0n thread hanging! :(

We love you.
We appreciate you.
We like seeing your chips.

I like doing unspeakable self-abuse after watching them and getting overexcited

Buy some more chips to get your likes.:p And maybe leave a single pic unhidden behind a spoiler alert as a appetizer. I missed it completely:watching:.

Period!

Wouldn't the same hold true for buying? Also -- basic statistics: One person CANNOT single-handedly drive up the price of anything. Now, if we were a forum of 5 people, maybe. But, you knew that. You play poker. You understand basic calculations.

Or are you just looking for a Pair to be your 4-of-a-Kind's bitch?

Which brings me to the question: What do you care if I overpay? Its my money. Who are you to actually even say that I overpaid? What's the point of creating a free-market classifieds system if you're saying its not really free?

Grow up, dude.

Listen, this is not just a money thing...and I do understand what Mike is saying.

First, this is nothing personal....it really isn't.

But imagine this..
Not so long ago, this hobby was a niche thing...small group of member that knew almost everone on the board.
I'm not saying it was the land of honey and unicorns...but in those days, flipping chips, use unauthorised artworks, renegging deals, ... had severe consequences.
Forget about mods & being banned...the community excluded people like that without thinking twice (or at least in most of the cases).
That's why all veterans will remind you that your word is all you have...and since all trades & sales are based on trust, why take a chance ?
Some came & went..but the mainpart was in it for the long haul

Plenty of things happend meanwhile (exodus Chiptalk, no more BCC & TRK, ASM -> CPC, no more home chips from Paulson, boat chips & other private buys, tenfold #vendors, tenfold #members)

While i'm happy that new members arrive at PCF every day, recent influx has lead to a demise of quality topics, the patience to learn about chipping & create relations, morality issues (cancelling auctions, renegging bids/sales, ...), and so on.

Did you do any of these things ?
No...but understand that posting a WTB for boat chips (chips with a very high love/hate rate and considered by many to be grail chips) before you even know what values are part of that set...can rub some members in the wrong way.

So it's not evny or trolling...there a just plenty of members out there that don't consider chips to be commodities and act accordingly...others made it a life purpose to milk our community for the last $ when possible. Again, nothing personal since time will tell what your true colors are but sometimes these groups collide and postings like Mike's happen (and are on point with what many other veterans think).

Hope this can give you some insight, this post is not ill willed...hope you don't see it that way

Feel free to contact me to discuss things more in detail if you please

Guys, every time you respond, someone has to respond to you.

Just move all these talks out of Mail Pr0n. I don't care, but I guarantee people are coming here due to notifications and sighing.

Comin' from a post spammer that loves to walk the borders of the acceptable(*)...we are only on page 321 Barrie ;)

(*) example

It's a race against time. Will Barrie be banned before his membership expires?

I think most bets are being layed at even 1:1 odds. Let me know if you need some action. Also taking Futures on the next year.

I like @Changster. A lot.

I like @windwalker. A lot.

I like @Perthmike. A lot....even if he's being a bit of an asshat itt. But, hey, I've been a bit of an asshat in the past (really, I swear it's true), and some people managed to get past it and we've become good friends.

This too will pass.

I like the giraffe chips, but personally think they are grossly overpriced..... but then I also think that about a lot of the currently 'popular' chips. Supply/demand blah blah, yeah I get it.

The true hidden silver lining here is that due to their specific history, those great giraffe color/spot combos could potentially reappear as future home market chips, if/when GPI ever decides to reenter the market.

Now THAT would be magnificent, indeed -- imagine pallets of those chips hitting the market for under a buck fiddy.... even if with cheesy inlays on the card pip, lammer, or PC mold.

If there is even the remote possibility of this happening, we should petition for the THC mold to be restricted for home market chips.
